Mirage Box is a creative collaboration between Nick Coppola, a prolific songwriter and lyricist, and Chris Capozza, a multi-instrumentalist audio engineer and music producer. Mirage Box seeks to be indefinable to one genre of music. Influenced by The Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Yes, Kansas, Genesis, Dream Theater, CS&N, The Who, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Sex Pistols, Chicago, Styx, Asia, Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffet, Soundgarden, Boston and Steely Dan, writers Nick and Chris combine various styles as the vehicles of their original music, often employing Mellotrons, MiniMoogs, B3s and Leslies, Taurus Pedals, doublenecks, Rickenbackers, Hofners, Les Pauls, Telecasters as well as orchestral and brass sections to create epic music, brimming with melodies, countermelodies, cannons, counterpoints and lush vocal harmonies. On Thursday night, Feb. 26, at midnight, the Las Vegas Strip welcomed its newest outdoor entertainment spectacle: the Swarovski Midnight Celebration at Grand Bazaar Shops. Created for Swarovski’s custom pavilion and six-story-tall Starburst, the Swarovski Midnight Celebration was designed to be the centerpiece of the new Grand Bazaar Shops, providing a unique retail and entertainment experience.
The Swarovski Midnight Celebration is a dazzling three-minute-long light-and-sound show designed to mark the dawn of a new day. The spectacle was envisioned as a way to bring New Year’s Eve-style excitement to the Strip every night of the year. The production incorporates the Swarovski Starburst—a one-of-a-kind, 14-foot-diameter structure composed of 911 custom-cut Swarovski crystal spheres—as well as a large video screen embedded into the multi-faceted façade of the Swarovski pavilion. Evocative scenes from exotic bazaars, together with the Starburst’s more than 1,800 points of LED light, are choreographed to a dramatic original score featuring enchanting beats of world music.

The National WWII Museum today opened its newest permanent exhibit: Richard C. Adkerson & Freeport-McMoRan Foundation Road to Tokyo: Pacific Theater Galleries. Retracing the grueling trail that led from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay, Road to Tokyo explores the evolving strategy for fighting relentless Japanese forces in Asia and the Pacific, examining cultural differences, logistical challenges and the staggering range of extreme conditions that confronted American military forces in Asia and the Pacific.
Along with Road to Tokyo, the Museum also opened a new exhibit on the US Merchant Marine. LTJG Ralph E. Crump Merchant Marine Gallery is a stand-alone gallery that honors the mariners who risked their lives transporting weapons, men and matériel to distant warfronts. Features include a video, artifacts, a model of a Liberty ship and an engaging array of personal narratives. The gallery is situated in the Solomon Victory Theater complex, at the end of the American Spirit Bridge – a new glass-and-metal bridge that connects the Museum’s Louisiana Memorial Pavilion with the rest of the six-acre campus for the first time.

Planetary Resources, Inc., the asteroid mining company, announced today that it has secured US$21.1 million in Series A funding. The capital will be used to deploy and operate Ceres, an advanced Earth observation business that features the first commercial infrared and hyperspectral sensor platform to better understand and manage humanity’s natural resources. The funding was led by Bryan Johnson and the OS FUND; and joined by Idea Bulb Ventures; Tencant; Vast Ventures; Grishin Robotics; Conversion Capital; The Seraph Group; Space Angels Network, a syndication of investors from Angel.co; and Larry Page. Earth observation will be another aspect of Planetary Resources’ operations in addition to prospecting and mining asteroids.
Conceived from the company’s vision for the exploration and utilization of asteroid resources, Ceres will leverage Planetary Resources’ Arkyd spacecraft to deliver affordable, on-demand Earth intelligence of our natural resources on any spot on the planet. While typical satellite imagery provides only a picture, Ceres will provide actionable data with higher spectral resolutions – going beyond what the human eye can see – by measuring thermographic properties and detecting the composition of materials on Earth’s surface. The midwave-infrared sensor is the first ever commercial capability from space to offer thermographic mapping and night-imaging, and the hyperspectral sensor includes an unprecedented 40 color bands in the visible to near-infrared spectrum.

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the March of Dimes Foundation announce the launch of a new $10 million Prematurity Research Center here.
The March of Dimes will invest $10 million during the next five years to create a transdisciplinary center conducting team-based research, led by physicians and researchers at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, to discover the unknown causes of preterm birth and develop new strategies to prevent it. This March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania is part of a “medical Manhattan Project” of five such centers in the United States created by the foundation since 2011.
