New research has revealed that the use of Antimicrobial Copper surfaces in hospital rooms can reduce the number of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) by 58% as compared to patients treated in Intensive Care Units with non-copper touch surfaces. In the United States, 1 out of every 20 hospital patients develops an HAI, resulting in an estimated 100,000 deaths per year. Although numerous strategies have been developed to decrease these infections, Antimicrobial Copper is the only strategy that works continuously, has been scientifically proven to be effective and doesn’t depend on human behavior, according to a recently published study in the SHEA Journal of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.

Eighteen years after opening its internationally prominent Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) celebrates 1,000 fetal surgeries – highly complex surgical interventions to repair birth defects in the womb. Research led by the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project has identified a fusion gene responsible for almost 30 percent of a rare subtype of childhood leukemia with an extremely poor prognosis.
The finding offers the first evidence of a mistake that gives rise to a significant percentage of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) cases in children. AMKL accounts for about 10 percent of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The discovery paves the way for desperately needed treatment advances.

Researchers at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, formerly Children’s Memorial, are embarking on a pioneering study to understand the extent to which healing spaces promote health and healing during hospitalization. A major focal point of the study will be the Crown Sky Garden, a 5-thousand square foot garden on the 11th floor of the 23 story hospital. The garden, named in honor of Chicago’s philanthropic Crown family, includes dozens of bamboo trees, an interactive wall that changes colors as people walk by and carved benches made from trees planted by Frederick Law Olmsted (designer of the famed Central Park) for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia today announced the largest charitable donation in its history: a landmark $50 million gift from the Buerger family toward the construction of a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility. Nearly 90 percent of children and adults with a highly aggressive form of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) showed no evidence of cancer after receiving a novel, personalized cell therapy that reprograms a patient’s immune system. In pilot studies of bioengineered T cells that attack leukemia, 24 of 27 patients (89%) experienced complete responses within 28 days after treatment. In all, 27 patients received the treatment--22 children treated at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and five adults treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

This song does signify an importance to Sarantos personal life. Not too long ago, Sarantos lost his devoted father, after a hard-fought battle to lung cancer. The Chicago singer has since been driven to remain strong and positive not just for himself but for his friends & fans.
“Going through life’s hardships has given me the willpower to write songs and to sing from the heart,” says Sarantos. “I wouldn’t have had the passion to strive for my dreams if it wasn’t for my loving family. I know my father would have been very proud of me.”
Sarantos releases his 6th music video, a fun-intuitive summer pop song signifying bliss and optimism, inspiring fans to smile endlessly. The song was released on June 3rd, 2014.
Sarantos' has a strong motivation with his musical passion to raise money for charity. 33% of any music-related sales profits are going straight to charity. For “A Sunny Day”, Sarantos has chosen the Thanioton Society.
