the United States, Memorial Day, which occurs each year on the last
Monday of May, represents a holiday in which we recognize the sacrifice
of our fallen military service members. In early rural America, the
custom of honoring ancestors by cleaning cemeteries and decorating
graves was usually performed in late summer and was often an occasion
for family reunions and picnics. After the Civil War, America's need
for a secular, patriotic ceremony to honor its military dead became
prominent, as ceremonies centering on the decoration of soldiers'
graves were held in towns and cities throughout the nation.
While browsing in a rare book store in Arkham, Sean finds an occult book with an ad seeking an apprentice sorcerer, from a newspaper dated March 21, 1895. Even more intriguing, the ad specifically requests applicants reply by email.
Sean’s always been interested in magic, particularly the Lovecraftian dark mythology. The advertiser, Reverend Redemption Orne, claims to be a master of the occult born more than 300 years ago. To prove his legitimacy, Orne gives Sean instructions to summon a harmless but useful familiar—but Sean’s ceremony takes a dark turn, and he instead accidentally beckons a bloodthirsty servant to the Cthulhu Mythos god Nyarlathotep. Now Sean must find and bind the servitor, before it grows too strong to contain. But strange things are already happening in the town of Arkham. Welcome to the darker side of New England in the first of a new series from Anne Pillsworth. Find out more at http://us.macmillan.com/books/9780765335890 YA/Fantasy

More than 30 years after the cult
television series The Love Boat filmed a special Australia episode in
Sydney, the show's popular Captain Stubing has released a fun video
about his latest tour Down Under, revealing he still loves to be at the
helm. With his visit timed to coincide with the romance
around St Valentine's Day, actor Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain
Stubing on the popular 70's show, visited Australia and New Zealand in
February, to renew the wedding vows of more than 30 local couples
onboard the Australian-based Sun Princess. The new video
captures highlights of Gavin's visit to Sydney and Auckland, including
his role as 'celebrant' at the wedding vow renewal ceremony as well as
his cruise across the Tasman Sea onboard Sun Princess with Gavin having
a little trouble adjusting to his new role as a guest, rather than the
captain, onboard the modern Love Boat. Speaking after his
tour, Gavin said he had fond memories of The Love Boat's time down
under in 1981, and he was delighted to revisit Sydney this year to
renew local couples' vows and again in Auckland. Connect with Princess: http://www.facebook.com/PrincessCruises http://www.twitter.com/PrincessCruises http://www.google.com/+PrincessCruises http://www.pinterest.com/PrincessCruises http://www.instagram.com/PrincessCruises
