ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert offers people with diabetes a new and easy way to simplify complex calculations to deliver precise insulin dosing advice.
Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today that the ACCU-CHEK® Aviva Expert system, the first and only blood glucose meter system with a built-in insulin calculator to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is now available by prescription. A Firefly is lighting up operating rooms, making it easier for robotic surgeons to remove tumors. However, this Firefly is not the type that children catch in a jar during warm summer evenings. Instead, it’s a technology that uses a wavelength of light not visible to the human eye. A special dye is then injected which causes a bright green fluorescence of certain tissues, hence the name “Firefly.” This green glow lets surgeons clearly see the difference between cancerous and healthy tissue when performing surgery, allowing them to remove the tumor while saving the rest of the healthy organ.

Epson America, Inc., a leading provider of superior performing printing solutions, today announced its newest additions to the Supertank line of cartridge-free EcoTank® printers, including three new Expression® EcoTank home models and two new WorkForce® EcoTank printers for the small medium business market. Additionally, Epson introduced two new printers to its EcoTank portfolio – Expression Premium – which offer a five-color ink system for improved photo and document print quality. All seven models offer a new industrial design featuring integrated ink tanks with uniquely keyed auto-stop ink bottles for easy filling of each color.
The integrated ink tanks are positioned in the front of each EcoTank printer rather than on the side for a simpler user experience and improved design, delivering cartridge-free printing with easy-to-fill, supersized ink tanks. The new auto-stop ink bottles feature a unique spout and inlet design for each color to prevent misfiling, and stops automatically when the tank is full. Using an entrepreneurial distribution model, the Natural Light project will now donate a second instalment of 20,000 solar lamps. These will be sold by new sales agents in off-grid communities in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone and, for the first time, in Malawi.
The aim of this project, besides bringing a sustainable light source to off-grid communities, was to create a business model for local sales agents to make a living. This has been a great success. Today more than 50 sales agents in three African nations – Zimbabwe, Zambia and Sierra Leone – have their own businesses selling Natural Light solar lamps.
The Natural Light project, in collaboration with social business Little Sun, and NGO Plan International, was created to celebrate the VELUX Group’s 75th anniversary. Following an international design competition last year, which received 172 submissions from all over the world, the winning design was chosen and 14,500 units of the solar lamp were distributed in Africa – one for each employee of the VELUX Group and its sister companies.
