The 6th annual Variety Power of Youth event, which took place Saturday, Sept. 15 in Los Angeles, Calif. was the perfect platform for Allstate’s XtheTXT campaign to encourage young drivers not to text and drive. During the event, Hollywood’s rising stars and others pledged not to text and drive by inking their thumbprints on a Ford Focus car wrapped with XtheTXT messaging and imagery.
In addition to many other young celebrities, including Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas, Jordin Sparks, Christian Serratos, Diego Boneta and R.J. Mitte, Vampire Diaries' star Kat Graham took the pledge not to text and drive.

Fifteen-year-old Chengo Chewe from Lusaka, Zambia, has turned his life around through the Children International Youth Program. Raised in an extremely volatile community, he lost his father at a young age; few expected him to escape this terrible cycle of poverty and violence. Yet, in 2009, 12-year-old Chengo participated in the United Nations International Youth Day in New York City. Today, Chengo is in high school and plans to study political science in college. His biggest dream? Returning to the United Nations as a diplomat.
Chengo credits Children International for the positive track his life has taken. “I would like to say thank you to Children International for the opportunities they have given me, the opportunities that have opened in my life.”

For an audience of 300 at the New York Stock Exchange, including members of the New York Cosmos and New York Red Bulls, the America SCORES 7th Annual National Poetry SLAM! featured poetry performances by 27 elementary school children from 14 cities. Also in attendance were guests of honor football legend Shep Messing and soccer visionary, Joseph Tacopina. The event, a benefit for America SCORES, reached its $150,000 fundraising goal thanks largely to these honorees and their friends, including international soccer icon Pelé, who collectively matched the evening’s donations with $10,000. Today, Disney Parks has officially given a new name to the ever-growing Walt Disney World Moms Panel: the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Along with the change in title, the company announced the website’s 19 newest members. Spring training kicked off in Lakeland, Fla. with the Topps Company, one of the leading manufacturers and marketers of sports trading cards, creating the World’s Largest Baseball Card to celebrate the return of baseball nationwide and the new 2013 Topps Baseball Series 1 cards.
Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder and nearly 100 youth baseball players from Lakeland City Baseball unveiled the largest card ever created. Measuring nearly 90 ft. tall and 60 ft. wide, this massive baseball card depicts the image of Fielder, who appears on the cover of the Topps 2013 Series 1 box.

In Texas, football and those Friday night lights are true to people’s hearts – but the importance of hydration may not always be top of mind. Representatives from Nestlé® Pure Life® recently visited a local Texas youth and football cheer practice to help inspire the coaches and parents to make healthy choices for their families and join the Nestlé Pure Life Hydration Movement. To encourage the kids to drink water and stay hydrated during practice, Nestlé Pure Life donated more than 12,000 bottles of water to the League.

Millions of young people across the nation will become scientists for the day tomorrow, during the fifth annual 4-H National Youth Science Day (NYSD). This annual event seeks to spark an early youth interest in science education and future careers, and to reclaim the nation’s position of leadership in scientific exploration. As part of 4-H NYSD, youth will participate in the 4-H Eco-Bot Challenge: the 2012 National Science Experiment at hundreds of local events taking place in all 50 states.
