An estimated 48 million people in the United States have hearing loss, yet only 20 percent of people who could benefit from a hearing aid wear one. Cost is a major barrier as the average price of a hearing aid is $1,500 per ear, and can run as high as $3,000-$5,000 each. With the introduction of HearTEK™ Leasing from EPIC Hearing Healthcare (EPIC), individuals with hearing loss now have access to the latest name brand hearing aid technology without the barrier of huge upfront costs and with the peace of mind that they will not be locked into out-of-date technology.
“Consumers have gotten used to many of the benefits of leasing their smartphones – no one wants to pay upfront for technology that could be quickly outdated as hearing aid manufacturers regularly introduce new devices with updated features,” said Brad Volkmer, president and CEO, EPIC Hearing Healthcare. “The HearTEK Leasing program is an affordable new way to give more people with hearing loss access to quality hearing aid technology, so they can start hearing life to the fullest.”

America’s traffic congestion recession is over. Just as the U.S. economy has regained nearly all of the 9 million jobs lost during the downturn, a new report produced by INRIX and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) shows that traffic congestion has returned to pre-recession levels.
According to the 2015 Urban Mobility Scorecard, travel delays due to traffic congestion caused drivers to waste more than 3 billion gallons of fuel and kept travelers stuck in their cars for nearly 7 billion extra hours – 42 hours per rush-hour commuter. The total nationwide price tag: $160 billion, or $960 per commuter.
Washington, D.C. tops the list of gridlock-plagued cities, with 82 hours of delay per commuter, followed by Los Angeles (80 hours), San Francisco (78 hours), New York (74 hours), and San Jose (67 hours).

XQ Institute is launching XQ: The Super School Project, a challenge to reimagine and design the next American high school. Harnessing the best of American ingenuity in cities and towns across the country, XQ aims to help spark a movement to rethink the American high school—an institution that was designed to meet the needs of the Industrial Revolution and hasn’t changed in more than a century.
“Our nation is radically different than it was 100 years ago. Nearly every aspect of our daily lives—from how we communicate to how we work and play—has changed dramatically,” said Laurene Powell Jobs, Chair of the board of XQ Institute. “But our high schools have stayed frozen in time. Together, we have an opportunity to help fuel a movement for students, to inspire great high schools, and even to rethink school itself. Our passion at XQ is to help educators everywhere foster students who are curious, engaged, and creative—armed with the new literacies, knowledge, and skills needed to thrive,” she added. “To do that, we must use our collective imagination.”
From the Model T to the Tesla and the switchboard to the smart phone—everything has changed except for how we prepare our kids for the future. XQ: The Super School Project is a rallying call to America to change the outdated model that has failed to prepare our students for the demands of the global economy, and an open call to every community to rethink high school for today and tomorrow. XQ Institute will provide a fund of $50 million to support at least five selected schools over the next five years. It will also partner with them to provide expert support and guidance to turn their ideas into real Super Schools that can inspire the country.

Bayer is proud to announce that over one million meals have been donated to hungry families across America. Earlier this year, Bayer, a global leader in innovation and agriculture, and country music superstar, Luke Bryan, launched the Here’s To The Farmer campaign, asking Luke’s fans across the country to give thanks to American farmers while also helping hungry Americans by sharing #HeresToTheFarmer. For each hashtag Bayer donated one meal* through Feeding America®. The campaign, coinciding with the 2017 Bayer Presents Luke Bryan Farm Tour, set a target of 1 million meals donated before the end of the year. With the help of fans, farmers and communities across the country, the Here’s To The Farmer campaign reached and surpassed this goal in less than four months.
“We want to give a huge ‘thank you’ to Luke, his fans, state officials, and of course, America’s farmers, for making Here’s To The Farmer an overwhelming success,” said Ray Kerins, SVP for Bayer. “Farming communities across this great nation deserve our thanks and support. Here’s To The Farmer is one way Bayer was able to help hungry American families and we are incredibly proud of this campaign.”

Facing new evidence from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) that world hunger continues to rise1, Kellogg today announced a new campaign that will make it easier for people to fight hunger by donating 10 foods hungry families request most, to Feeding America® food banks across the U.S.
In a world where we produce enough food for everyone, how can more than 820 million people, or one in nine, struggle with hunger?
The answer, according to Matt Knott, Feeding America President, lies in our ability to get the right foods in the hands of the people who need it most.

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today announced a new, national effort aimed at ending hunger in the communities Kroger calls home and eliminating waste across the company by 2025.
“No family in a community we serve should ever go hungry, and no food in a store we operate should ever go to waste ,” said Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s chairman and CEO.
Across the United States, 42 million Americans struggle with hunger. At the same time, an estimated 72 billion pounds of food ends up in a landfill every year.
“More than 40 percent of the food produced in the U.S. each year goes unconsumed, while one in eight people struggle with hunger. That just doesn’t make sense,” Mr. McMullen said. “As America’s grocer and one of the largest retailers in the world, we are committing to doing something about it.”
