The transition to a “Green Economy” has been a main priority of Kazakhstan the past several years. In 2012, our capital Astana, won its bid to host EXPO2017 with ‘Future Energy’ as the theme. This subsequently led to the adoption of “green” development.
From 18 to 22 January 2014, Kazakhstan participated in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the capital of the UAE. According to Talgat Yermegiyayev, the Chairman of the Astana EXPO-2017’s National Company JSC, the summit provides the ideal platform for cooperation with key partners in future energy sector projects.

The winners of the Natural Light - International Design Competition have now been chosen from the 172 impressive Natural Light Lamp designs submitted from 65 countries around the world. The winners are two very talented Argentinian Industrial Design students, Ms. Mariana Arando and Mr. Luca Fondello, both from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The production phase of the winning design for the Natural Light Lamp will begin shortly, followed next year by shipment of the lamps to three African countries without access to electricity.
Last year, the VELUX Group and Little Sun joined forces to launch the Natural Light – International Design Competition, which challenged design students around the world to create a design for a solar lamp which would help to bring clean, reliable, affordable light to some of the 1.2 billion people worldwide living without electricity. Now the jury has voted and decided on the winning solar lamp design by two Industrial Design students from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

ITC Transmission, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ITC Holdings Corp., the nation’s largest independent electricity transmission company, today announced its Thumb Loop high-voltage transmission project is complete with the energization of the third and final phase of the project. ITC invested an estimated $510 million to build the 345,000 volt (345 kV) line, which serves as the backbone of a system designed to meet the identified maximum wind energy potential of Michigan’s Thumb region. It also will contribute to regional system reliability and facilitate wholesale market competition.

J.Crew brands has announced their continued participation in a fall denim drive in partnership with Cotton Incorporated’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program in J.Crew and Madewell retail stores. The drive first kicked off in 74 Madewell stores on August 12, while J.Crew's 269 participating stores started the program on August 21. Both brands have decided to extend their participation in the denim drive - J.Crew will host until December 31, 2014 and Madewell will host until January 31, 2015.
