This book was written primarily for those young people, both boys and girls and their parents and/or mentors who, for whatever reason, believe they have no chance at a successful life. This book is the story about a young boy who believed he was in that category while growing up. That little boy changed those odds and ultimately did many things that most people cannot even dream of. Dick was expected to work twelve- to fourteen-hour days every day until he left home to join the air force when he was seventeen years old. By the grace of God, Dick somehow graduated from high school since he never once, in twelve years, ever had any time to do homework. Dick’s very best childhood friend was his Dog King who is on the cover of this Book. Without King, Dick’s childhood would have been very, very difficult, for they were always together. Life was about to change dramatically when Dick joined the air force when he was seventeen years old. The title of the book, “Destiny,” is very appropriate since it was at that time when destiny played a major role in Dick’s life. Dick should have never passed his induction physical due to an unknown severe bundle branch blockage in his heart, but he did; he should have never been accepted in the Air Force’s air weather school, but he was, graduating forty-third out of a class total of 187. He remained in the air force for a total of four years. In his book, Dick discusses many more pivotal events where destiny played a major role. non-fiction/historical

The RCS Engineers Rocketry Team from Russellville, Ala., beat out 100 competitors to claim first place at the National Finals of the 2015 Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). After months of rocketry design, test flights and qualification launches, hundreds of students from across the country traveled to Great Meadow in the Plains, Va., to vie for the title of champion of the largest rocketry competition in the world.

Tyrelle Davis and Faith Fennidy, both 11-years old, made headlines when they were sent home from school because of their hair extensions. Eleven-year-old Jorja Orrick was bullied for having short hair, which prompted her sister Sarah to cut her own locks in solidarity. With real stories like these and a history of helping young girls build self-esteem, Dove was inspired to join forces with Kelly Rowland to write and produce an original song titled, “Crown” — a power anthem that aims to break down the narrow definition of beautiful hair and encourage girls to feel confident in wearing it how they choose. Black History Month is a time when all Americans honor the rich African American culture in our society. It was Carter G. Woodson, an African American historian, who began a weeklong celebration, called Negro History Week, in 1926 as a way to honor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. One of the best ways to celebrate is by reading books by and about African Americans. The Verizon Innovative App Challenge - the no-coding-skills-needed contest that gives middle and high school students a chance to bring their problem-solving app ideas to life - is back! In its fourth year, the App Challenge calls students to gather teams, dream up ideas, and create concepts for mobile apps that could solve problems in their schools and communities.
For the first time, the App Challenge will be open to teams representing non-profit organizations in addition to schools, and even more students will earn free tablets and cash awards for the groups they represent. The deadline for submission is Nov. 24, and the winners will be named in January 2016.
Bill Nye, the Science Guy, is helping Verizon to encourage students nationwide to submit their ideas and to organize their teams now.
Created by the Verizon Foundation in partnership with the Technology Student Association, the App Challenge offers hands-on, experiential learning to ultimately help students envision brighter futures for themselves that they may never have imagined, as business owners, app inventors and professional coders.

A cartoon character from a Buddhist temple in Beijing has been making waves online. But Xian’er the monk is no ordinary two-dimensional comic strip – he’s a walking, talking, 24-inch high robot who can chant, answer questions and interact with his surroundings.
Xian’er the robot monk is not the first high-tech solution to Buddhist teachings from Longquan Temple. The institution is staffed by monks who operate computers and smart phones along with their prayer beads and singing bowls. His creator, Master Xianfan joined the temple after graduating from China’s most prestigious art school – the Central Academy of Fine Arts
