Nearly 12 million men in the U.S. suffer from symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlargement of the prostate that can cause issues such as frequent and weak urinary streams and sleep deprivation from getting up repeatedly during the night to urinate. Since traditional BPH therapies such as daily medications and more invasive or surgical procedures often result in unwanted side effects and complications, more than 54 percent of men who would benefit from treating their BPH choose not to do anything1. With today’s national introduction of the FDA-cleared Rezūm® System, NxThera provides urologists and their patients suffering from symptomatic BPH with a new, safe and effective minimally-invasive, office-based treatment option which improves quality of life and preserves sexual function2 – one of the main reasons many men choose to forego medications or more invasive procedures. “Men suffering from BPH are constantly evaluating the trade-offs between maintaining their current declined quality of life or treating their BPH symptoms and possibly incurring long term side effects,” said Dr. Kia Michel, M.D., a urologist at Comprehensive Urology in Los Angeles who recently performed the procedure as part of a nationally televised segment on prostate health. “Of all the minimally-invasive BPH treatments I’ve performed, Rezūm is the most effective and most versatile treatment available to patients – and the results have been excellent.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7933151-nxthera-rezum-therapy/

Abbott announced today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval and launch of the iDesign Advanced WaveScan Studio System. The system acts as the "brain" of the LASIK procedure, generating a high-definition scan that measures and maps irregularities of the eye that may impact vision. From these measurements, the iDesign System creates an accurate and personalized LASIK treatment plan based on the unique "blueprint" of each person’s eyes. The iDesign System captures more than 1,200 micro readings of the eye, as well as identifying the shape of the cornea, its curvature, how light passes through the eye and pupil diameter under different lighting conditions – all in one, three-second scan that can be used to precisely correct vision. The development of the sensor technology within the iDesign System was the result of an earlier discovery by Abbott scientists, which NASA used to accurately measure and shape the mirrors in the James Webb Space Telescope to ensure it will transmit high resolution images of deep space back to earth. The telescope is scheduled to launch in 2018. To view the Multimedia News Release, please go to http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7571951-abbott-idesign-system-3-d-eye-map/

Epson America, Inc. today introduced the FastFoto™ FF-640 high-speed photo scanning system poised to change the way people preserve and share the billions of photos tucked away in attics, basements, garages, and closets. An innovative alternative to flatbed scanners and costly third-party scan services, FastFoto can scan photos as fast as one photo per second and easily restores faded photos to their original color to share with family and friends via the cloud and on social media, like Facebook® and Instagram™. “Whether it’s for a Throwback Thursday, a photo slideshow for graduation, a wedding, or another life event, before today, digitizing photographs with a flatbed scanner or scanning service has been a time consuming and expensive task,” said Larry Trevarthen, director, Commercial Printing and Scanning, Epson America, Inc. “Scanning shoeboxes of photos on a flatbed scanner can take hundreds of hours, and sending photos out to a scanning service is pricey and puts irreplaceable photos at risk of being lost or damaged. FastFoto offers a fast, easy and affordable solution for preserving a family’s legacy.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7820753-epson-fastfoto-worlds-fastest-photo-scanner/

Usually, people think that lightning is the fastest thing in the world. Is there anything else comparable with lightning speed? Recently, an experiment was conducted, comparing the unlocking speed of a mobile phone with lightning speed, and the OPPO F1 Plus mobile phone was chosen because the tagline says it can unlock in 0.2 seconds. The experimenter released the lightning by means of Tesla coil and triggered switch and fingerprint membrane, and the experimental result shows that lightning and OPPO F1 Plus unlocking almost simultaneously happen. OPPO F1 Plus fingerprint unlocking so fast lies in its recognition system, featuring adaptive, self-learning, and dynamic matching abilities. OPPO F1 Plus can adapt to the various states of the user’s fingers, and dry or wet fingers can smoothly unlock it. Under certain conditions, the system will automatically learn, and constantly improve, the fingerprint information of the users, thus decreasing obviously false acceptance rate and false rejection rate. Meanwhile, the system database template image sequence will dynamically adjust according to the habits of the users, with 0.2s unlocking more quickly and conveniently. Hospital-acquired infections can be deadly – and many times preventable. Nearly every major public health organization agrees that ineffective “hand-hygiene” (hand washing or using disinfecting sprays, wipes or gels) is one of the most significant contributors to the problem. Further compounding the problem is the fact that compliance rates among caregivers are difficult to track and often found to be low. Hill-Rom has developed a new system to help hospitals monitor hand-hygiene rates: the Hill-Rom® Hand Hygiene Compliance Solution. The new offering, which is now available to hospitals nationwide, provides real-time monitoring and staff reminders, simplifies reporting, and can use the same hardware and devices as other Hill-Rom real-time locating solutions.
