As back to school season approaches, Pilot Corporation of America (Pilot Pen) is working diligently to help empower students to excel and to overcome their greatest challenges during the school year. Bullying and cyberbullying are at an all time high, with nearly 1 out of 4 U.S. students having been bullied. Pilot Pen’s ongoing partnership with the nation’s leading anti-bullying prevention organization, STOMP Out Bullying is designed to help “Erase Bullying For Good,” for the fourth consecutive year. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness of this serious issue, helping to ensure that parents, educators and students are aware of the valuable resources available to those in need of support. As part of the effort, Pilot is donating 10 cents from every specially-marked package of FriXion Clicker erasable gel ink pens purchased during the back to school period, to support STOMP Out Bullying. Debt is a buzzword for politicians, a burden for students, a necessity for most homeowners and a reality for 70 percent of Americans.
But despite this fact, 30 percent of those in debt have no plan to pay it off, according to a recent survey conducted by Fifth Third Bank (NASDAQ: FITB).
Fifth Third commissioned the national survey to examine the financial beliefs and behaviors of American adults. The results provided a snapshot of our nation’s financial literacy, with 82 percent of respondents citing financial independence as a goal in their lives. The survey also revealed how the three largest generations in America differ in their understanding and management of savings, budgeting, retirement planning and credit.
“At Fifth Third, we were curious to discover how knowledgeable Americans are about their personal finances,” said Jada Grandy, senior vice president and Community Reinvestment Act strategies director, Fifth Third Bank. “The results of this survey give insight into financial literacy in America, as well as the needs of customers at different key stages of their lives. This knowledge arms Fifth Third with the tools to support our customers at every step on their journey to financial independence.”

Oklahoma State University (OSU) and the New York Philharmonic announced a residency partnership marking the opening of the new McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at OSU in October, 2019. The partnership is made possible in part by the visionary $25 million programming gift to OSU by alumni Billie and Ross McKnight. The McKnights’ gift established a program endowment to benefit all students, faculty and the Stillwater community by bringing top-tier residency programs and performances to OSU.
In addition to multiple New York Philharmonic performances at the McKnight Center conducted by future New York Philharmonic Music Director Jaap van Zweden, the residency partnership will include educational opportunities for OSU students with Philharmonic musicians and management, such as masterclasses, audition workshops and lectures. Every season the Philharmonic reaches millions of people through concerts at Lincoln Center in New York, worldwide tours, educational activities and outreach. The partnership with OSU adds to the Philharmonic’s growing list of educational partnerships throughout the U.S. and world, which includes the University Musical Society at the University of Michigan and New York Philharmonic Global Academy partnerships with Santa Barbara’s Music Academy of the West, The Shepherd School at Rice University and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.

Millennials are now the largest living generation in the country. One of the most studied and analyzed generations, millennials are now becoming parents. According to a Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research report published in 2015, 43 percent of children age 0-17 had millennial parents in 2014, and this figure is expected to exceed 50 percent in 2016. A new independent survey of U.S. households, supported by Connections Education, found that millennials are supportive of alternative approaches to education, with three-fourths of millennial parents (77 percent) saying a DIY approach to education, in which learners craft a path to graduation that best fits their needs, is a good idea.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the RUBE GOLDBERG MACHINE CONTEST® during the 2018 season. The contest, which started in 1988 with a handful of university engineering undergraduates, now includes divisions for elementary, middle, high school and college students with thousands of participants nationwide. Going back to its roots of creating breakfast machines, this year’s task for all divisions will be to “Pour a Bowl of Cereal.”

Connections Academy, a leading provider of online K-12 schools, released results today from its annual parent satisfaction survey measuring families’ satisfaction with their Connections Academy virtual school experience. The survey also reveals reasons why families are choosing Connections Academy for their children.
