The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities is pleased to announce the launch of an egyptian – international Project using non-invasive and non-destructive surveying techniques for the scanning of Egyptian Pyramids under the title “ScanPyramids” project.
Just because a mystery is 4500 years old doesn’t mean it can’t be solved…” This could be the motto of the exceptional scientific mission launched October 25, 2015, under the authority of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, initiated, designed and coordinated by the Faculty of Engineering of Cairo and the French HIP.Institute (Heritage, Innovation and Preservation). Radiographic muons, aka cosmic particles, infrared thermography, photogrammetry, scanner and 3D reconstruction: the most innovative technologies will be used by researchers of international renown and three major universities: the Faculty of Engineering of Cairo University, Université Laval of Quebec and Nagoya University of Japan. Their goal: to probe the heart of the largest pyramids of Egypt, without drilling the slightest opening.
Four millennia after their construction, these ancient giants are far from having yielded their secrets. The first mystery concerns their construction, especially Khufu, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still existing: it is still impossible to describe with certainty how this stone monument, the largest ever built by humans, was erected.
The “ScanPyramids” project has already been approved by the permanent committee of the Ministry of Antiquities and has obtained all necessary permissions from concerned authorities. With a base of more than 5 hectares, its original height of almost 150 meters and a mass of 5 million tons, how was it possible to construct such a wonder in only 25 years?

Heute fand im „Maison de la Chimie“ in Paris die Pressekonferenz #ChangeTheNumbers der L’Oréal-Stiftung statt. Dort wurden die Ergebnisse einer exklusiven internationalen Studie vorgestellt, die gemeinsam mit dem Meinungsforschungsinstitut „Opinion Way“ durchgeführt wurde. Ziel der Untersuchung war es, die Gründe für das Ungleichgewicht in der Wissenschaft zwischen Frauen und Männern besser zu verstehen sowie Hindernisse aufzudecken, denen Frauen bei einer Karriere in der Wissenschaft gegenüberstehen.
David Macdonald, Direktor des Förderprogramms For Women in Science von L’Oréal betonte auf der Veranstaltung, dass sich die Öffentlichkeit nicht darüber bewusst sei, wie stark die Vorurteile über Frauen in der Wissenschaft noch immer in den Köpfen der Menschen verankert sind. Heute bewegt sich der Frauenanteil in der Wissenschaft nach wie vor auf geringem Niveau: Nur 30 % aller Forscher sind weiblich.1
Als Ergänzung zu dieser Studie hat die L’Oréal-Stiftung darüber hinaus Erfahrungsberichte von Preisträgerinnen, die im Rahmen des For Women in Science Programmes ausgezeichnet wurden, hinzugezogen. The Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation will open its first permanent public home—the Lemelson Hall of Invention and Innovation—at the National Museum of American History July 1. ATLANTA — January 29, 2019 — The Krystal Foundation announces $101,112.78 in enrichment funding for 31 schools and school-affiliated organizations. These grant recipients were chosen from 229 applications received during the Foundation’s first two grant windows for the 2018-2019 academic year. The next grant window opens on February 1 and extends to March 1 when recipients will be selected for an additional $50,000 for impactful programming in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) as well as music, sports and culinary arts.
“Krystal is fully invested in the communities we serve,” said Paul Macaluso, Krystal president and CEO and president of The Krystal Foundation. “The Foundation helps pay for programs that foster academic enrichment, while building life skills for the children of our customers and our employees.”
