Spring training kicked off in Lakeland, Fla. with the Topps Company, one of the leading manufacturers and marketers of sports trading cards, creating the World’s Largest Baseball Card to celebrate the return of baseball nationwide and the new 2013 Topps Baseball Series 1 cards.
Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder and nearly 100 youth baseball players from Lakeland City Baseball unveiled the largest card ever created. Measuring nearly 90 ft. tall and 60 ft. wide, this massive baseball card depicts the image of Fielder, who appears on the cover of the Topps 2013 Series 1 box.

New research has revealed that the use of Antimicrobial Copper surfaces in hospital rooms can reduce the number of healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) by 58% as compared to patients treated in Intensive Care Units with non-copper touch surfaces. In the United States, 1 out of every 20 hospital patients develops an HAI, resulting in an estimated 100,000 deaths per year. Audi hat heute im ungarischen Györ ein neues Kapitel in seiner Erfolgsgeschichte aufgeschlagen. Zusammen mit dem ungarischen Ministerpräsidenten Viktor Orban gaben Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chef des Volkswagen-Konzerns, und Rupert Stadler, Chef des Audi-Konzerns, den offiziellen Startschuss für die Serienproduktion der Audi A3 Limousine und eröffnetem damit gleichzeitig die jetzt ausgebaute, hochmoderne Fertigungsstätte. Auf einer Fläche von mehr als zwei Millionen Quadratmetern hat Audi damit innerhalb von zwei Jahren eine vollständige Produktion mit Presswerk, Karosseriebau, Lackiererei und Montage errichtet. Insgesamt investierten die Ingolstädter mehr als 900 Millionen Euro in Infrastruktur, Bau und innovative Fertigungsanlagen. „Mit dem Ausbau unseres Werkes hier in Györ hat sich Audi Hungaria zu einem bedeutenden Standbein unseres weltweiten Produktionsnetzwerks entwickelt“, sagte Rupert Stadler. „Damit verfolgen wir konsequent unsere Wachstumsstrategie und stärken unsere internationale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Voraussetzung, um unser Ziel zu erreichen, bis 2020 die führende Premium-Marke zu werden.“ Audi Hungaria, dessen Gründung der ebenfalls bei der Feierstunde anwesende Professor Ferdinand Piech angestoßen hatte, feiert in diesem Jahr zudem noch sein 20jähriges Bestehen. Seit dem Start in 1993 entwickelte sich der Standort zum größten Motorenproduzenten der Welt und liefert inzwischen seine Triebwerke an Marken aus dem gesamten Volkswagen-Konzern. In 1998 kam dann die Auto-Montage von den Modellen TT Coupé und TT Roadster hinzu. Mit dem Ausbau folgt nun der dritte Schritt – die komplette Produktion eines Autos, wobei die Jahreskapazität bei 125.000 Einheiten liegt. Mit der Werkserweiterung wurden 2.100 zusätzliche Arbeitsplätze geschaffen, so dass die Belegschaft in dem damals ersten Audi-Standort außerhalb Deutschlands die Belegschaft auf über 9.000 Menschen angewachsen ist. Insgesamt 15.000 Menschen leben somit künftig direkt oder indirekt von dem Audi-Werk.

A large metal sculpture in honor of automotive pioneer Louis Chevrolet, co-founder of the Chevrolet brand, was unveiled and inaugurated in the Swiss city of La Chaux-de-Fonds, today.
The abstract work was commissioned on the occasion of the car brand’s 100 year jubilee in November 2011. Today, it was formally handed over to Louis Chevrolet’s native city by Dr. Thomas Sedran, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.

Ahead of World Stroke Day 2012 (October 29), European Policy Makers have joined over 90 Medical and Patient Organisations, and more than 100,000 people, in supporting the Global Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Patient Charter and calling for National Governments and the World Health Organisation to act to make the prevention of AF-related strokes a priority. The Charter outlines ways to improve the diagnosis and management of AF which, if implemented, could stop thousands of preventable strokes from occurring each and every year.
