An eye-opening stat: almost 70 percent of people from around the world would rather give up 10 years of their life, or even sacrifice one of their limbs, than lose their eyesight. Yet less than one third of those polled take the basic steps necessary to preserve eye sight, according to the “Barometer of Global Eye Health,” a new global survey released today by Bausch + Lomb.
This first-of-its-kind public opinion poll sheds new light on the state of consumer awareness, attitudes and behaviors related to eye health. While 80 percent of visual impairment is preventable if detected and treated early enough, according to the findings not enough people are getting regular eye exams and their reasons for doing so vary wildly.

A landmark summer research study has unveiled a vital component of wellness and happiness…vacations. The survey, “The Takeaways from Getaways,” commissioned by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, draws attention to the serious physical and emotional implications of stress and feeling over worked, and the inextricable link between vacation and personal wellness and happiness.
The research revealed surprisingly that more than 9 out of 10 Americans reported feeling happier after taking a vacation. And seventy-seven percent (77%) believed that their overall health improves after a getaway. Even so, more than half of Americans admitted that doctors should be able to prescribe vacations as a curative and therapeutic option for stress-related maladies.

A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Colgate Total® about oral health reveals a lack of awareness about the various health issues associated with diabetes. More than one third of all respondents (36%) are not aware of the link between diabetes and oral health and are less likely to associate oral health issues with diabetes than almost all other health conditions related to diabetes. More than half (54%) report one or more symptoms of gum disease – yet 67% do not discuss their oral health with their doctor.

Ahead of World Stroke Day 2012 (October 29), European Policy Makers have joined over 90 Medical and Patient Organisations, and more than 100,000 people, in supporting the Global Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Patient Charter and calling for National Governments and the World Health Organisation to act to make the prevention of AF-related strokes a priority. Approximately one-third of teens may be missing annual checkups according to data from the US Department of Health and Human Services and the US Census. Teens often encounter social, emotional, and physical issues that may include eating disorders and obesity, substance abuse, and sexually transmitted infections. While experts agree that teens should get annual medical checkups to be screened for health risks and discuss important health-related matters, perceptions exist that may contribute to millions of teens missing out on yearly visits. To better understand perceptions about teen health, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), in collaboration with, and with support from Pfizer Inc, conducted a national survey, fielded by Harris Interactive, of more than 2,000 parents of teens, teens, and healthcare professionals.
