Season 3 of Food Network’s top-rated series Chopped All-Stars returns Sunday, April 7th at 9pm ET/PT, as sixteen culinary competitors battle it out for the title of All-Star champion and a $50,000 prize for the winner’s charity. At 104 years old, Edythe Kirchmaier has been serving others for more than a century, 40 years of which have been as a volunteer with Direct Relief International. As Edythe approaches her 105th birthday, she hopes to inspire the world to make a difference, as she has, by raising awareness for the charity to which she’s dedicated much of her life, Direct Relief. To honor Edythe and celebrate her milestone birthday on January 22, 2013, Direct Relief has created the world’s largest (virtual) birthday cake, a Facebook application called Edythe’s 105th Birthday Challenge, which will enable the world to light a candle and wish Edythe a happy birthday.

What impact would an ice sheet have on a Swedish final repository for spent nuclear fuel? And how does a final repository affect the surroundings if the ground is constantly frozen? The answers to these questions can be found in Greenland.
The nuclear fuel repository has to function and be safe for very long periods of time. SKB’s safety analyses investigate what will happen to the repository during as long a period of time as one million years. That’s the equivalent of as much as eight ice age cycles. By examining existing ice sheets, like the one in Greenland, climatologists can learn enough to be able to model what could occur in the far future.

There was much more to watch and celebrate yesterday than the big game. Thousands of football-themed costumed pets and their owners took to the streets of the Soulard neighborhood in St. Louis Sunday, Feb. 3 to join the huge tail gate party and march in the 20th annual Beggin’® Pet Parade.
Annually attracting more than 8,000 pets and 80,000 people, the Beggin’ Pet Parade is one of the largest pet parades in the world. The parade holds the Guinness World Records™ for “Most Dogs in Costumed Attire,” achieved during the 2012 parade.
