In the wake of recent tragedy, the Newtown community came together to show the nation the true meaning of “Newtown strong.” It was inspiring to see such overwhelming support for a small, quiet town in the face of such extreme adversity.
The Strides for Sandy Hook 5k memorial run/walk was created as a way for local residents to continue the healing process. The 5k took place on Saturday, January 19, 2013. The unofficial community run honored the lives of victims lost in the December 14, 2012 tragedy. While there was a suggested donation of $25 for participants, any amount was accepted—no matter how big or small. Strides for Sandy Hook attracted nearly 200 walkers and runners and raised over $3,600 on January 19 alone. All donations and proceeds were given towards a memorial fund established by Newtown Parks and Recreation, the Newtown Park Gift Fund.

Six Flags Over Georgia prepares to take to the sky as the countdown begins for the launch of the park’s newest thrill ride, SkyScreamer. The park’s newest addition was previewed today by media and VIP guests. SkyScreamer opens to the public on Friday, May 24, 2013.
At 242 feet, SkyScreamer is 40 feet taller than the park’s mega-coaster Goliath, and will give passengers a thrilling view of the Atlanta skyline. Thirty- two riders will sit two across in open air swings while spinning to the top of the tower. At full swing, guests revolve in a 98-foot circle at speeds of 40 mph.

Super Bowl Champion, New Jersey native and Entenmann’s celebrity ambassador, Victor Cruz unveiled a one-of-a-kind, larger than life Entenmann’s Crumb Top Donut, at the National Donut Day celebration in New York City’s Madison Square Park, in commemoration of the sweet holiday. Researchers at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, formerly Children’s Memorial, are embarking on a pioneering study to understand the extent to which healing spaces promote health and healing during hospitalization. A major focal point of the study will be the Crown Sky Garden, a 5-thousand square foot garden on the 11th floor of the 23 story hospital. The garden, named in honor of Chicago’s philanthropic Crown family, includes dozens of bamboo trees, an interactive wall that changes colors as people walk by and carved benches made from trees planted by Frederick Law Olmsted (designer of the famed Central Park) for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.
