Wildfires are a serious risk to property and lives in every state in the country. Last year alone the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported there were 63,212 fires in the U.S. and Puerto Rico that burned 3,595,613 million acres – that’s roughly the size of Connecticut! In an effort to help raise community and homeowner awareness about preparing for wildfires, State Farm and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) are working together and encouraging residents to take action during national Wildfire Community preparedness Day. The National Limousine Association (NLA) and When Georgia Smiled: The Robin McGraw Revelation Foundation (WGS) join forces on The Aspire Initiative, a domestic violence program, which aims to reduce the level of intimate relationship violence in the US and instill the importance of bystander responsibility. With an escalating number of passenger assaults alleged against ride-hailing app drivers, the NLA believes Aspire is vital to ending violence and sexual assault. Robin McGraw announced the partnership in a video message posted to her Foundation’s Facebook timeline on Friday, November 20th. The message was then shared by Robin’s husband and television personality Dr. Phil McGraw to his show’s Facebook page timeline on Monday, November 23rd. The Aspire Initiative is available free of charge and includes a potentially-lifesaving smartphone app, Aspire News, a smartphone app available as a free download on Google Play, as well as at www.whengeorgiasmiled.org, that allows the user to create a pre-written text or voice message to be sent to designated numbers (i.e., 911 or other chosen contacts) with just the tap of a button. The ignition of the app‘s “go button” also starts a recording to capture the details of the domestic violence encounter and/or other dangerous events taking place. Aspire News is designed to appear like any other smart phone app to the untrained eye, allowing it to be downloaded and used discreetly. The National Mining Association (NMA) called on policymakers to reject an ill-conceived administration proposal that would jeopardize America’s electric grid and threaten the economic well-being of consumers and businesses. Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed aggressive guidelines for regulating greenhouse gas emissions from existing coal-based power plants that generate 40 percent of the nation’s electricity and which will raise the cost of electricity for all Americans, according to NMA. Rwanda is celebrating and believe me they have a lot to celebrate after 20 years of peace! Exact numbers killed are of course difficult to verify but it likely well over a million people, which for a country as tiny as Rwanda is about 1 in 5. We do know that at least 500,000 people were killed in a mere 100 days after the assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana and Cyprien Ntaryamira on April 6 through mid-July in 1994. It\\\'s also quite difficult to guess the exact start date of the genocide because the definition of genocide wasn\\\'t even recognized internationally until 1948. I would personally put the start of their troubles at 1933 when the then ruling Belgians organized a census and mandated that everyone be issued an identity card classifying them as either Tutsi, Hutu, or Twa. This, then started the tensions that led to an eventual genocide. Many people are familiar with Rwanda both because of it\\\'s unusual name and the association with the famous fact based movie \\\

The National Limousine Association’s Ride Responsibly™ initiative (www.rideresponsibly.org) is back with its third public service announcement starring actress and activist Pamela Anderson. In partnership with Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment (PAVE), the PSA highlights the often horrifying lack of accountability maintained by ride-hail services and urges passengers to make themselves aware of the safety standards for these apps and their drivers. “Terms & Conditions” is a follow-up to Ride Responsibly’s second PSA, “The Signs,” which was released in January and called attention to the vast number of sexual assaults reported against drivers. This time, the video shows Pamela Anderson as a passenger of a ride-hail vehicle. Her driver quickly and abruptly reads her a list of terms that she is agreeing to by using the service. Much of the language shocks and disturbs Pam as she is informed that these apps are not responsible or liable for a passenger’s well-being. The terms used for this PSA were taken, in reality, directly from a popular ride-hailing app. To view the multimedia release go to: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8285451-nla-ride-responsibly-pave-pamela-anderson-psa-terms-and-conditions/

To kick off Lung Cancer Awareness Month this November, the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, nationally presented by CVS Health, today announced its partnership with Grammy Award-winning singer Patti LaBelle to further educate the public about lung cancer, the leading cancer killer of women in the United States. Personally affected by lung cancer, LaBelle hopes that lending her powerful voice to the cause will encourage all women to learn how they can make a difference in the fight to defeat lung cancer, which claims the life of one woman every eight minutes in the United States. Raising awareness is critical as only 1 percent of American women even have lung cancer on their health radar. Lake Research Partners and Bellwether Research and Consulting recently released a new national poll sponsored by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) that finds likely 2016 voters have widespread and serious concerns about ethanol’s unintended consequences—including damage to engines, land conversion and food prices. “Voters across party lines express grave concerns for the impacts of the corn ethanol mandate from the Renewable Fuel Standard that touch many parts of their lives from the cars they drive to the food they buy,” said Celinda Lake, president of Lake Research Partners. “They strongly support bi-partisan proposals that would reduce the impact of corn ethanol, and particularly support the Environmental Protection Agency reducing the amount of corn ethanol required by law.” As the EPA recently closed the comment period on its proposed ethanol volumes for 2014, 2015 and 2016, the poll also shows that 67 percent of people favor the agency setting ethanol volumes below what is required by law, with 68 percent of Democrats and 71 percent of Republicans supporting volumes lower than the statute.
