Mit dem neuen Rapid Sportback, der im Oktober bei den Händlern steht, haben die Skoda-Anhänger noch mehr die Qual der Wahl, für welches Kompakt-Modell des tschechischen Herstellers sie sich entscheiden sollen. Vor allem diejenigen, die bereits den ebenfalls ja erst seit knapp einem Jahr erhältlichen Rapid gegenüber dem länger gewordenen Octavia favorisierten. Denn sie haben jetzt die Wahl zwischen der klassischen Stufenheck-Limousine und der Kurzheck-Form. Das ist vor allem eine Sache des Geschmacks und der persönlichen Vorliebe. Denn wenn auch der Spaceback mit 4,30 Metern 18 Zentimeter kürzer als die Limousine ist, sind die Platzverhältnisse für die Insassen genauso großzügig wie beim „großen Bruder“. Das geht allerdings zu Lasten des Ladeabteils, das mit 415/1.380 zu 550/1.490 Liter Volumen deutlich kleiner ausgefallen ist. Aber nur im direkten Vergleich - im Segment der Kurzheck-Modelle ist das einer der besten Werte und mehr als ausreichend selbst für größere Einkäufe bei einem Baumarkt. Die Fahrleistungen und Verbräuche sind mit minimalen Vorteilen für die Limousine nahezu identisch und auch das Fahrverhalten unterscheidet sich künftig nicht, da der „klassische“ Rapid das optimierte Fahrwerk ebenfalls erhält. Bleibt also das Blechkleid. Die Front ist bis zur B-Säule gleich gezeichnet, doch die Silhouette des Spaceback wirkt mit ihren schlanken Säuleneinheiten und der hohen, scharf ausgeprägten Tornadolinie sowie mit dem deutlich kürzer ausfallenden hinteren Überhang einfach sportlicher, dynamischer als die Limousine. Und auch das Heck ist prägnanter, kräftiger gezeichnet. Im Prinzip stehen sich hier also Klassik und sportlicher Chic und sogar ein bisschen Lifestyle gegenüber und es könnte gut sein, dass Skoda sich damit eine neue Käuferschicht erschließt, ohne die bisherige zu verprellen.

By reprogramming a 7–year–old girl’s own immune cells to attack an aggressive form of childhood leukemia, a pediatric oncologist has achieved a complete response in his patient, who faced grim prospects when she relapsed after conventional treatment. The innovative experimental therapy used bioengineered T cells, custom–designed to multiply rapidly in the patient, and then destroy leukemia cells. After the treatment, the child’s doctors found that she had no evidence of cancer.
