The highlight of the design is the artificial intelligence technology applied to create ME 1.0, the first smart assistant that makes the AI talking system from the 2013 film “Her” real.
VINCI Smart Hearable is a wireless and hands-free smart music player that can react to user body and consciousness dynamics with different kinds of music. With a built-in proximity sensor, the device automatically plays the music when user puts it on. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) today announced it has committed $28.6 million in new research investment to advance the most promising blood cancer science at leading academic and medical institutions around the world, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Weill Cornell Medical College and MD Anderson Cancer Center. As LLS leads the charge to find cures for cancer patients, this new funding, along with ongoing investment in LLS’s aggressive research agenda, brings LLS’s total commitment to blood cancer research to more than $1 billion. The investment has led to the development of nearly every therapy currently used to treat the blood cancers.
Along with these new research grants, LLS remains committed to collaborating with biotechnology companies through its innovative Therapy Acceleration Program® (TAP), a model pioneered by LLS in the cancer arena in recognition that traditional research approaches weren’t yielding treatments and cures fast enough for patients. LLS commits approximately $13 million a year to its TAP initiatives. As part of the 24 current such collaborations, LLS recently initiated new investments with Kite Pharma and OncoPep.

Chiasma, Inc., a U.S. privately–held biopharma company developing octreotide capsules for the orphan condition acromegaly, today announced two new studies presented at the 97th Endocrine Society (ENDO) Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif. The studies provide additional data from Chiasma’s Phase III trial and new findings on the patient burden of current injection therapies.
“We now have data to help clinicians determine whether octreotide capsules, if approved, are likely to help their patient with acromegaly maintain response,” said Shlomo Melmed, M.D., senior vice president and dean, Cedars–Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles and global study principal investigator. “Furthermore, the Phase III results show the safety and efficacy of octreotide capsules can be reliably determined within 12 weeks of initiating therapy.”

Results from a large retrospective data analysis published in the American Journal of Transplantation (AJT) today, showed that liver transplantation patients who were treated early with Advagraf experienced a significantly increased graft survival benefit of 8% at 3 years post-transplant compared with patients treated with the current standard of care, tacrolimus immediate release (twice daily).

A change is coming to the checkout. This fall national retailers are turning on newly installed payment terminals aimed at better protecting consumers from cybercrime and credit card fraud. These machines are designed to accept new, more secure credit cards, commonly referred to as “chip” cards. These new credit cards will contain an embedded microchip that cannot be replicated, making it more difficult for hackers to use stolen card numbers to produce fraudulent credit cards.
Retailers are spending billions of dollars putting in place new payment terminals that are certified for chip card acceptance. This will ensure they are not held liable for counterfeit fraud usage when new cards make their way to the marketplace, and will ensure a more secure transaction for consumers compared to current technology.
