Today on Rare Disease Day, My Life, Our Future, a national program founded by leaders in the bleeding disorder community, including Bloodworks Northwest, the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network, the National Hemophilia Foundation and Bioverativ Inc., opened the largest research repository of its kind in the world to scientists. The My Life, Our Future Research Repository is a collection of genetic data and blood samples that are linked to phenotypic data from more than 5,000 people in the U.S. with hemophilia, a rare disorder that impairs the ability of one’s blood to clot. The My Life, Our Future Research Repository will allow researchers to advance the scientific understanding of the disorder, including genetic differences that affect bleeding severity and reaction to certain treatments.

Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Alana Miller of St. Pauls, North Carolina, as the winner of the Grand Prize 2015 Rare Life Award. Eagle Rare will donate $50,000 to Miller’s charity, Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, and host an awards ceremony in St. Pauls on March 14.
The Rare Life Award is an annual recognition program created to honor individuals who exhibit courage, leadership, survival, devotion, character and heroism. Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Angie Goodwin of Calhoun, Ky., as the winner of the Grand Prize 2014 Rare Life Award. Eagle Rare will donate $40,000 to Goodwin’s charity, Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation, and host an awards ceremony in Henderson on March 7. Angie and her late son Lane started the foundation to support childhood cancer research through funding and advocacy and to assist families battling childhood cancer by providing education, financial assistance and a volunteer network.

Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Tonya M. Evans of Lawrence, Kansas as the winner of the Grand Prize 2013 Rare Life Award. Eagle Rare will donate $30,000 to Evans’ charity, American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation (www.afwmf.org).
