The Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. Ralph camera aboard the New Horizons mission will provide the closest images we have ever seen of Pluto when the spacecraft arrives at the dwarf planet on July 14.
Ralph, the main “eyes” of New Horizon is designed to help scientists map the surface geology of Pluto and its moons, and investigate Kuiper Belt objects. The small but powerful Ralph weighs only 23 pounds and operates on approximately seven watts, the power of a standard night light. The entire telescope operates around 220 K (-60°F) in the cold darkness of the outer solar system. After a journey of more than nine years, Ralph will capture the first ever close-up snapshots of Pluto when New Horizons passes within 7,000 miles of the tiny, icy dwarf planet.

From a four-ton elephant to tiny fly larvae, American Humane Association was on the set of “Water for Elephants” ensuring that every animal in the production was treated humanely and kept safe. American Humane Association awarded this 20th Century Fox film its highest rating, “Monitored: Outstanding - ‘No Animals Were Harmed’ ®.”
“It’s a big endorsement to get from the American Humane Association,” said lead actress Reese Witherspoon. “They’re very conscious of how the animals are treated. They’re on set every day, making sure the animals were provided safe facilities and safe transportation and that they can only work a certain amount of hours. They are just the happiest animals — you can tell!”

SEE International, a nonprofit dedicated to providing essential vision care worldwide, is proud to announce the release of a new short film. Entitled “A Mother’s Wish,” the 7-minute documentary tells the emotional story of Nacor, a 7-year old boy living in a tiny village in Peru. Born with cataracts in both eyes, Nacor was already legally blind. If he did not receive treatment soon, he might never see again.
Carmen, the boy’s mother, desperately wished for her sons to see again, but could not afford the vision care that they needed. Thankfully, Carmen heard that SEE would be holding a free clinic in the nearby city of Tarapoto, in July 2017. Thanks to the incredible hard work of the traveling and in-country volunteer surgeons, Nacor received the cataract surgeries that he badly needed. Now he can see normally, participate in school, and play with his friends. He has a bright future ahead of him.
