Nestlé Health Science will unveil its pediatric closed system formulas with the new SpikeRight® PLUS port at the annual American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition’s (A.S.P.E.N.) Clinical Nutrition Week meeting being held in Orlando January 21-24. The introduction marks a significant step in supporting the provision of safe enteral (tube) feeding. Enteral tubing misconnections, where feeding solutions are wrongly administered through intravenous (IV) tubing or other non-enteral systems, have been a concern for nearly thirty years. Most commonly occurring in intensive care settings, where patients have multiple types of tubing connections, an enteral tubing misconnection can result in catastrophic complications and possibly death. Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), announced today the initiation of its Phase III clinical program called Cdiffense to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of an investigational vaccine for the prevention of primary symptomatic Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a potentially life-threatening, spore-forming bacterium that causes intestinal disease. The risk of C. diff increases with age, antibiotic treatment and time spent in hospitals or nursing homes, where multiple cases can lead to outbreaks. The investigational vaccine is designed to help protect at-risk individuals from C. diff, which is emerging as a leading cause of life-threatening, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) worldwide. A new online resource is now available to help people recognize and find high quality care for alcohol use disorder, which affects more than 15 million adults in the United States. The Alcohol Treatment Navigator, designed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health, is a comprehensive, yet easy-to-use tool to help individuals and their loved ones navigate the often-complicated process of choosing treatment for alcohol problems. With many treatment options available, the navigator makes the search easier by telling them what they need to know - and what they need to do – to find appropriate, quality care. “We developed this tool to help address the alcohol ‘treatment gap,’” said NIAAA Director George F. Koob, Ph.D. “In any given year, less than 10 percent of individuals diagnosed with alcohol use disorder receive treatment, and many of them do not receive the type of care that best fits their needs. A big reason for that, we believe, is that people with alcohol use disorder often don’t know where to turn for help. The Alcohol Treatment Navigator offers a comprehensive strategy to help people search for professionally-led, evidence-based alcohol treatment, which should improve their chances for success.” To view the multimedia release go to: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8179051-niaaa-alcohol-treatment-navigator/

According to recent survey by Medicomp Systems, 43 percent of healthcare IT professionals and physicians cited that their top data-related challenge was not a lack of data but rather the struggle to access the right data at the right time. Those findings aren't surprising since the vast majority of health information systems today share a common design flaw: they don't think and work the way physicians do at the point of care. However, they are still deeply concerning. To deliver the best patient care, physicians need clinically relevant data that is seamlessly presented within their current workflows and integrated into the same workspace. The result is not only better patient care and better outcomes but also higher clinical effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction. nanobébé, a brand dedicated to revolutionizing the infant feeding industry, today announced the launch of its much-anticipated sleek and modern ecosystem of health-focused feeding essentials for today’s 21st century parents, poised to be hot baby registry items this year. Breastfeeding moms can rejoice in the company’s flagship Breastmilk Bottle, the first and only baby bottle designed specifically to preserve essential breast milk nutrients. From pumping, storing, warming to feeding, the award-winning nanobébé Breastmilk Bottle protects the breast milk and preserves its nutritional value. “When moms warm breast milk in the traditional way, there is a good chance that they are unknowingly damaging the nutritional and immunity-boosting properties of the milk. Additionally, the milk is likely heated unevenly, causing hot spots, which can harm the baby,” said Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH, nanobébé SpokesDoctor, family physician and coauthor of The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby’s First Year. “nanobébé’s bottles are biomedically engineered with a concave shape that spreads the breast milk into a thin layer and allows it to warm at safe temperatures, protecting nutrients from damage and preventing hot spots.” The nanobébé Breastmilk Bottle warms stored breast milk quickly, twice as fast as standard bottles.
