Ascensia Diabetes Care today announced the availability of the CONTOUR®NEXT ONE blood glucose monitoring system (BGMS) in the United Kingdom, one of the next steps in the evolution of self-monitoring of blood glucose. As part of the system, the CONTOUR®NEXT ONE meter and CONTOUR®DIABETES app seamlessly connect, which makes capturing blood glucose results effortless for people with diabetes. The system enables patterns and trends to be revealed that can help people understand their diabetes, and may help to improve diabetes management.
The system features an easy-to-use wireless-enabled smart meter that links to a smart mobile device via Bluetooth® connectivity. The CONTOUR®NEXT ONE meter gives immediate feedback and also seamlessly connects to the CONTOUR®DIABETES app, which collects, stores and analyses patient blood glucose results received from the meter. The app combines these results with other data recorded by the user, to provide detailed information about their condition that can help them understand how their everyday lives may impact their blood glucose readings, including alerts for critical high or critical low readings. Through the app, meter users can also share with their healthcare professional the reports of their blood glucose results and patterns, either in advance or on the day of their appointment, helping to create more informed discussions.

Der Beetle von Volkswagen zieht in diesem Sommer in den US-Motorsport ein. Am Rande der New York International Auto Show stellt Volkswagen of America den Rallycross-Beetle mit Allradantrieb vor, dessen TSI-Motor mehr als 560 PS (412 kW) leistet. Volkswagen of America hat sich für dieses Projekt mit dem US-Rennsport-Spezialisten Andretti Autosport zum Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Team zusammengeschlossen, das zwei Global Rallycross (GRC) Fahrzeuge für die Rennfahrer Tanner Foust und Scott Speed stellt. Das Team startet die Saison zunächst mit zwei modifizierten Polos auf der Bodengruppe des 2013 World Rally Championship-Siegerautos. Im Sommer erfolgt dann der Wechsel auf den GRC Beetle, wie er in New York präsentiert wird. Mit diesem allradgetriebenen Rallycross Beetle stellt Volkswagen in den USA gleichzeitig das leistungsstärkste Modell der Baureihe vor: Der TSI-Motor leistet durch Aufladung und Direkteinspritzung mehr als 560 PS. Rallycross gehört zu den Motorsport-Disziplinen in Amerika, deren Fangemeinde am rasantesten wächst - sowohl in Besucherzahlen als auch in Bezug auf TV-Einschaltquoten. Die anspruchsvollen Rundkurse bestehen teils aus Staubpisten, teils aus Asphalt und bieten den Zuschauern durch Niveauunterschiede mitunter spektakuläre Sprünge der Wettbewerbsfahrzeuge von über 20 Meter Länge.
Der Audi A1 Sportback, der Anfang 2012 zu den Händlern rollt, ist der fünftürige Kompakt-Audi für ein junges, urbanes Publikum. Im Design, beim Aufbau der leichten Karosserie und in den Abmessungen ist der 3,95 Meter lange Neue eng mit seinem dreitürigen Schwestermodell verwandt. Er baut um einige Millimeter höher, damit bietet er mehr Platz auf der Rücksitzbank. Audi liefert den A1 Sportback serienmäßig mit vier, auf Wunsch ohne Aufpreis mit fünf Sitzen aus.
Als Antrieb stehen vier TFSI-Benziner und drei TDI bereit, ihre Leistungsspanne reicht von 63 kW (86 PS) bis 136 kW (185 PS). Für einige Motoren liefert Audi die blitzschnell schaltende Siebengang S tronic als Kraftübertragung.

Thirteen 12-meter antennas manufactured by General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies have been successfully installed at the 16,500-foot-high Chajnantor plateau in Chile, home to the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) astronomical observatory. Located in the Andes mountains, the 115-ton, highly specialized antennas form part of an 11-mile-wide international astronomy project. When it is completed in 2013, scientists will use the observatory to study portions of the universe at a level of detail that is beyond what current astronomical technologies provide, studying the origins of galaxies, stars, and planets.

A symbolic first stone has just been placed for the new Aircelle (Safran) facility in Hamburg, Germany, which will assemble and deliver nacelles on Airbus A320neo jetliners equipped with CFM International LEAP-1A jet engines.
Located at Hamburg Hausbruch, this 8,000-square-meter installation – situated on a 20,000-square-meter site – will handle the final steps in Aircelle’s full industrial responsibility for the A320neo nacelles: integration on the engine, followed by delivery to Airbus’ A320 assembly lines in Hamburg.
