Women love their hair. They devote time, energy and money to helping it feel and look its best. It’s even a means of self-expression, sometimes more so than a woman’s clothing. BIOTA Botanicals set out to take the pulse of American women regarding how they really feel about their hair – especially as they (and it) ages. According to the national consumer survey, most women 30+ have already noticed and worry about the density of their hair as they age. In fact, more women are concerned about thinning-damaged hair than they are about going grey (58% vs. 51%).+ Many say that the condition is embarrassing and a clear-cut sign of getting older, and most agree that it’s an unpreventable fate. Says Kelli Calabrese, renowned health, beauty and lifestyle expert, “The problem with thinning-damaged hair is not always what’s visible,” she says. “It’s how it rocks a woman’s self-esteem. For women, who put so much emotional value on their hair, it can be absolutely devastating for their self image and emotional well-being.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7598951-biota-fall-beauty-tips/

“One of my earliest boxing memories is sitting on the ring apron at the Repton Boxing Club watching my older brothers train. Sitting there, ringside with my Dad, I couldn't wait for it to be my turn. By the time I was old enough to start training I already knew how to hold my hands in the correct position and throw a number of combinations (my brothers had shown me how and I practiced at every opportunity!). I remember my first fight. I was 11 years old. Sitting in the dressing room, there were about 15 other young boxers getting ready too. Everyone was asking each other, who are you fighting, who are you fighting. There was this one big guy sitting in the corner wrapping his hands. Someone asked him, Hey, who are you fighting, Someone called A. Lee he said with a shrug. That's when I knew I was in for a rough night! As I stood in the corridor before my ring entrance, my stomach was in knots, to say I was nervous would've been an understatement! Walking to the ring, I looked across at my family, the whole clan had turned out to support me. I remember thinking to myself, I don't care how big this guy is I’m not losing this fight! Anyway, to cut a long story short, I won the fight and many more after that.” Visit Andy on MOLI.com Courtesy of www.andyleeboxing.com

Most Americans appear hopeful and optimistic about aging according to a new, national study from Parker, one of America’s leading aging services organizations that this year celebrates its 110th anniversary. Key findings from Parker’s “Aging in America Survey”—which examines the nation’s changing attitudes and opinions around growing older in the U.S.—include: • A vast majority of Americans (71%) do not fear or worry about aging very much or at all. • More than half of those surveyed (62%) believe that 80 is not too old to serve in government, run a marathon, be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, teach a class, or practice yoga. • Those surveyed were evenly split (49% each) in describing the experience of growing older in America today with positive words (e.g., “hopeful,” “relevant,” “vibrant”) vs. negative words (e.g., “scary,” “depressing,” “lonely”). • Nearly two-thirds (59%) of Americans feel that not enough technology innovation focuses on the lifestyles of older people. • While 38% of Americans feel the most positive thing about getting older is gaining more experience and wisdom, only 1% believes it is acquiring greater wealth and material goods. A degree in nursing from Kaplan University addresses the challenges and scenarios real nurses work through on a daily basis. Kaplan University’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN program) is based on relevant material to help ensure our students are prepared for their careers. Our online nursing degrees are based on flexible coursework; students enrolled in the Kaplan University School of Nursing program are already nurses and there is no easier way to cater to the ever-changing schedule of a nurse than attending university online. We offer our students the courses to help develop their career through program offerings such as an RN-to-MSN option and nurse practitioner certificates.* Nurses don’t just work in hospitals. At Kaplan University, we understand the different capacities in which nurses work and have developed our nursing school online to accommodate all capacities of nursing. We see our nurses follow through with their training in programs that help students progress from their RN to an MSN program online. After years of hard work, our nurses look back at their time spent with Kaplan University and know it was a key element in getting them where they wanted to be. * At this time, the nurse practitioner certificates are available only in the following states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Vermont. “It’s important to Kaplan [University] to make sure that the students have the skill set and the abilities to function well in the world of nursing. We want our graduates to be considered the employees of choice so if they’re in a position or applying for a position, when the employer looks, ‘Oh you graduated from Kaplan [University].’ They know there is a certain currency and a certain relevance to the information and the knowledge they’ve gained. All of our online students are already nurses so they’re out there working in a variety of fields all over the country. We ask our nurses, we ask our students that are in our bachelor’s and our master’s program, what do they think? What’s important to them? We try to think outside the box. Not all nurses work in the hospital. Nurses in the community, nurses in informatics, nurses in education—because when you find something that you’re passionate about, that’s when you’ve learned. Their method of teaching was phenomenal. It was so phenomenal that when I went to take the boards I knew I passed the board. Why? Kaplan [University] taught me how. What makes the Kaplan [University] School of Nursing so unique is the ability to offer the beginning nurse Vocational Nursing diplomas, Practical Nursing diplomas, and then to be able to be with them all throughout their career as they advance and progress with additional diplomas, certificate and degree programs to meet every need. We give them opportunities to build their own professional portfolio throughout the nursing program we encourage the students to hold on to the things that they did well and to refine their skills. All of that are things that are absolutely embedded in the curriculum because we’re all about students’ success. Our students are challenged; they are working adults, they have families, and they have responsibilities, perhaps for children or older relatives. The personal touch is when the students know that the faculty care about them, that the advisors care about them and that people follow up. I initially went with Kaplan [University] because I had a lot of returned calls from them and a lot of encouragement. Being that it was an online school I was nervous about, “What if I need help?” “What if I have a question?” All of the instructors that I had said call me if you have a question, email me if you have a question; I really needed that extra little push to get me started. Our students feel like they really develop a personal relationship with the faculty. We see that when they graduate they’re always interested, if they

Nearly six of ten Americans will develop kidney disease in their lifetime, according to a new analysis published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. In comparison, lifetime risk of diabetes, heart attack and invasive cancer is approximately four in ten. As a result of this and previous studies, the National Kidney Foundation is calling on healthcare professionals to screen patients in specific high-risk groups for kidney disease – those age 60 or older and those with high blood pressure or diabetes – by adding a simple urine albumin test for kidney damage to annual physical examinations. Today, the Ad Council in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids, and KBS launched new public service advertisements (PSAs) for the award-winning Adoption from Foster Care campaign. The new television and radio PSAs encourage the adoption of older youth from foster care. Of the 428,000 youth under the age of 18 in the U.S. foster care system, 112,000 are currently waiting for adoptive families, according to the most recent Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) data. Since the project’s launch in 2002, more than 26,000 children who were once photo listed on the AdoptUSKids website have been placed with permanent families. However, older youth and teens have lower adoption rates than younger children, and they often wait longer to be adopted. Currently, of the 5,560 youth photo-listed on the website as available for adoption, 43% are between the ages of 15 and 18 years old.
