Northwestern Mutual, presenting sponsor of the 2016 Rose Bowl Game®, today unveiled its float design for the 127th Rose Parade® presented by Honda. Titled Dancing into Adventure, it will draw attention to the fight against childhood cancer by showcasing the greatest adventure and dream of Peyton Richardson, a 13-year-old aspiring ballerina from Sugar Land, Texas, who is battling leukemia. The theme of this year’s parade is Find Your Adventure. As an aspiring ballerina, Peyton wants to travel the world to see performances from the world’s most distinguished ballet companies and have a dance lesson with their principal dancers. Northwestern Mutual is using its sponsorship to bring Peyton’s adventure to life in flowers and raise awareness about childhood cancer. “Peyton’s unique, positive way of using ballet to battle cancer and stay focused on her dream is truly amazing,” said Conrad York, vice president of marketing at Northwestern Mutual. “At Northwestern Mutual, we know that each family has a dream in mind for their future, and we are here to support them every step of the way.” To view the multimedia release go to: http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7422155-northwestern-mutual-rose-parade-float/

For families who have a dependent with special needs, financial planning often takes a back seat to the necessities of daily life; but it also bears an increased importance. “April’s Autism Awareness Month offers a great opportunity to emphasize the importance of planning for families who are caring for a dependent child, sibling or spouse with special needs,” said Ruthann Driscoll, JD, CLU, CFP®, director of advanced planning at Northwestern Mutual. “Crafting a comprehensive plan that addresses the needs of the dependent with special needs — for today and for tomorrow — and balancing that with the needs of the rest of the family is essential to achieving lifelong financial security.” To view the Multimedia News Release, go to http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7422151-northwestern-mutual-autism-awareness/

Motherhood is a lifelong promise to love, protect and fight for your child. For some mothers, the greatest fight isn’t their own – it’s helping their child battle cancer. Beginning today and throughout May, Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, is honoring heroic moms of childhood cancer patients by sharing their inspiring stories of strength. Additionally, the foundation is making a $50,000 grant in support of these moms to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to help find a cure. Northwestern Mutual will share the personal stories of eight mothers and their children from across the country through a Facebook campaign. Today’s superheroes don’t drive a Batmobile or fly through the air faster than the speed of light. Their capes are white lab coats and their superpower is the ability to cure. They are men and women researching cures for childhood cancer – the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the U.S.1- which is vastly underfunded.2 Starting today, Northwestern Mutual is giving consumers the chance to honor childhood cancer researchers and kids who are fighting cancer, by raising research funds through a new Facebook campaign, Heroes for a Cure. The Northwestern Mutual campaign aims to raise $50,000 – equal to 1,000 hours of research – in September, which is National Childhood Cancer Month. John Peden was one of those larger-than-life personalities. “When he would walk into a room, it was like all the attention was on him,” said his stepdaughter, Jenna Peden. “He just had this power emanating out of him.” The 6-foot, 4-inch former U.S. Air Force captain was a respected dental surgeon in Nashville. He was active in his church and made many mission trips to provide dental care in Central America through Health Talents International. That’s why it was such a shock to his family and friends when an MRI revealed a brain tumor the size of a golf ball. “Life as we knew it was no more,” said his wife, Vicki Peden. “John never worked another day in his life.” To view the Multimedia News Release, go to http://www.multivu.com/players/English/7100754-northwestern-mutual-client-stories-planning-preparation-pay-off/
