Dubai Fountain is a record-setting choreographed fountain system set on
the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake, at the center of the Downtown
Dubai development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was designed by
WET Design, the California-based company responsible for the fountains
at the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. Illuminated by 6,600 lights
and 25 colored projectors, it is 275 m (902 ft) long and shoots water
150 m (490 ft) into the air (equivalent to a 50-story building),
accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world
music. It was built at a cost of AED 800 million (USD 218 million) and
attracts thousands of tourists on a daily basis.
Today, Atom Factory CEO Troy Carter announced plans to host a second season of Smashd Labs from September 6 to November 18. For the inaugural class, there were over 200 applicants in two weeks, six startups in the inaugural cohort, 30 mentors, founders as young as 19 years old, and over $2M raised from investments within six months of the lab’s concluding Demo Day.

The largest Memorial Day observance in the United States happens on the beach in Honolulu, Hawaii with the Lantern Floating Hawaii 2015 ceremony, presented by Shinnyo-en, an international Buddhist community with Japanese roots, and the locally based Nā Lei Aloha Foundation. The national preterm birth rate fell to 11.4 percent in 2013 – the lowest in 17 years -- meeting the federal Healthy People 2020 goal seven years early. Despite this progress, the U.S. still received a “C” on the 7th annual March of Dimes Premature Birth Report Card because it fell short of the more-challenging 9.6 percent target set by the March of Dimes, the group said today.
