Food Network kicks off the New Year with a new season of Worst Cooks in America, the hit competition series that transforms kitchen disasters into skilled cooks, and five-time winner Chef Anne Burrell returning for a rematch against Chef Tyler Florence. After a stomach-wrenching tasting, Anne and Tyler pick their teams and attempt to teach them to make a well-balanced meal. Two recruits are not up to the task, and are sent home. Upcoming episodes feature a game show - style battle called “Family Food,” internationally-flavored empanada and Asian street food challenges and a visit from the competitors’ loved ones. The season culminates in a finale on Sunday, February 14th at 9pm ET/PT where the most improved recruit is awarded $25,000 and bragging rights for their mentor.

Barcelona is hosting the third edition of the Wine & Culinary International Forum today, a biennial international conference dedicated to food and wine pairing promoted by Bodegas Torres. Over 250 professionals, including sommeliers, restaurant owners, distributors and journalists from almost 20 different countries, participated in the event. Celebrated in the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, it provided a forum in which to reflect and discuss the complementary relationship between wine and food under the heading “Wine and World Cuisines.”

Torres, opened the event, which featured talks, tastings and culinary demonstrations by a total of 20 national and international experts who are highly regarded in their fields. Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) officially opens its new manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Tenn., for production of premium cooking products. The $200 million project includes a state-of-the-art production facility and distribution center and will be the largest premium cooking plant in the world. Whirlpool expects the project will add about 130 new jobs to its existing Cleveland workforce. Each year Whirlpool Corporation spends more than $7.4 billion to operate its nine U.S. plants and keep its approximately 15,000 manufacturing employees at work.

More than 46 million turkeys will be cooked this Thanksgiving holiday, according to the National Turkey Federation.
