Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that the same Spectra® fiber technology used in protective vests for law enforcement is now available to shield the belongings of everyday consumers from thieves who slash bags to steal items.
Consumers who want to keep their belongings safe can now buy a theft-resistant drawstring backpack called the Flak Sack, designed by Loctote Industrial Bag Company. As seen on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” the Flak Sack is the world’s first cut-resistant bag designed for travel and daily use. Now, it will be enhanced with Spectra—the same fiber technology used in bullet-resistant vests. Flak Sack utilizes Spectra in a unique fabric construction called FLAKnit™ created by Tuff-N-Lite®, a division of Supreme Corp., a leading textile and fiber technology company. Yet, despite this durability, Flak Sack is flexible, making it ideal for a range of situations such as travel, hiking and everyday use such as commuting to work.

A new survey from Alcon, the global leader in eye care and a division of Novartis, demonstrates that people experience significant emotional and lifestyle benefits after cataract surgery. Nearly three in four respondents who expressed an opinion agreed that after having the surgery, they were happier, more satisfied and had a greater appreciation for life. The survey also confirmed that life before surgery posed several daily challenges. A majority of survey respondents said cataracts made simple, day-to-day tasks harder, and made them feel annoyed, frustrated and old.
In recognition of Cataract Awareness Month this June, Alcon conducted the MyCataracts survey with 1,300 US adults, age 60 and over, who have undergone cataract surgery, to better understand the emotional journey of the condition and the lifestyle benefits of treatment. The survey expands Alcon’s ongoing MyCataracts awareness campaign by uncovering insights that will help people make informed treatment decisions together with their doctors.

In just five hours overnight on October 18, Times Square was transformed from a concrete jungle into a woodland paradise by LightStream, the national online lending division of SunTrust Bank. Nearly 200 live trees, shrubs and plants -- oak, maple, and purple plum trees, as well as rhododendron, mountain laurels and more – provided a magical setting for thousands of visitors to enjoy and have their photo taken and shared on a Times Square billboard. The Forest of Dreams event kicked off LightStream’s effort to plant 10,000 trees in October, one for each person who participated in Times Square or who signs up at LightStreamForests.com before November 1.
The Forest of Dreams will benefit wilderness areas and green spaces across the U.S., including areas decimated by wildfires and hurricanes in Houston, Miami and California.
