The European Head and Neck Society (EHNS) today announces European-wide ‘Early Diagnosis Days’ taking place on Wednesday 24 September as part of this year’s Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (22–26 September). This follows the success of the 2013 campaign, where nearly 100 ‘Early Diagnosis Days’ took place. The foetus moves its mouth in an exaggerated manner when it hears a human voice. This occurs from the 16th week of pregnancy (with a foetus of 11cm) and only when the voice reaches it through an intravaginal device developed for this purpose. This is one of the conclusions of the study presented by Dr. Álex García-Faura, the Scientific Director of the Institut Marquès, at the 25th European Congress of Perinatal Medicine held in Maastricht (Netherlands).
The study finds that babies hear practically no external noise and only react when sound reaches them through the vagina, which confirms that they hardly hear voices through the mother’s abdomen. Their reactions were studied using Babypod®, a small device that is inserted into the vagina like a tampon and is connected to a mobile phone, enabling the voice of the mother or anyone else to reach the foetus.

Remington is “How the World Gets Ready” and models at New York Fashion Week are no exception. Remington was the brand of choice for achieving the nautical-inspired hair look developed by Teddy Charles at the LUCA LUCA S/S 2011 runway show. Raul Melgoza, the Creative Director for LUCA LUCA, collaborated with Charles, an industry trend-setter and fixture at fashion shows worldwide, to create the style. To complement the breezy, ethereal style of the spring collection, a twisted updo was given a textured edge and softened by face framing strands. Melgoza envisioned “a girl who has spent the day at sea and is now ready to come in and have a fabulous dinner.” The “Yacht Knot” was achieved with tools from the new Remington T-Studio Pearl Ceramic styling line.
