Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Tonya M. Evans of Lawrence, Kansas as the winner of the Grand Prize 2013 Rare Life Award. Eagle Rare will donate $30,000 to Evans’ charity, American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation (www.afwmf.org). Evans, who founded the charity in March 2011, is in the process of raising funds to establish a 20-acre, $30 million memorial honoring the memory of all military personnel lost since the first Gulf War and in Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and all peripheral operations in the war on terror.

Brazilian football legend, Ronaldo Nazario, was in Barcelona this week to take part in an invitational charity poker tournament as part of Spain’s biggest annual poker festival, the European Poker Tour (EPT). McDonald’s USA today announced its 2013 Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour raised more than $83,000—the most the tour has ever garnered—in support of local Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Chapters. With its seventh year wrapped, Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour, a free national concert series featuring a lineup of gospel greats, is designed to bring service, encouragement and entertainment to communities and emphasize the importance of giving back. This year’s nine-city tour, hosted by gospel artist/comedienne Vickie Winans, kicked off May 9 in Washington, D.C., and featured gospel music heavy-hitters Smokie Norful and son Ashton, Lecrae and John P. World tennis number one Rafa Nadal emerged as winner of the EPT Charity Challenge, beating Brazilian football legend Ronaldo and world number one poker player Daniel Negreanu.
The tournament, played as part of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague poker festival has been dubbed the greatest gathering of sporting professionals at a poker table. Nadal, Ronaldo and Negreanu joined former Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko, Italian skier Alberto Tomba and Dutch Olympic field hockey gold medallist Fatima Moreira de Melo–competing for their share of a €100,000 charity prize pool.

Eagle Rare will donate $40,000 to Goodwin’s charity, Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation, and host an awards ceremony in Henderson on March 7. Angie and her late son Lane started the foundation to support childhood cancer research through funding and advocacy and to assist families battling childhood cancer by providing education, financial assistance and a volunteer network.
