The Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) has added six new educational videos for patients and medical professionals to its library of popular educational videos on gout, highlighting the society’s most important takeaways from the recently released American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Guidelines on Gout Diagnosis and Treatment. Available under the patient and medical professional portals on www.GoutEducation.org, respectively, the latest videos emphasize the need for continuous communication between gout patients and their doctors about their unique treatment plan, to help prevent gout flares and long-term complications from this poorly understood form of inflammatory arthritis. Asuragen Inc., a leading molecular diagnostics company, today announced results from a study demonstrating that a new molecular test called Xpansion Interpreter® can improve the determination of a woman’s risk of having a child with fragile X syndrome, the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism, compared to existing risk measures. The Xpansion Interpreter Test is based on a technology breakthrough that reveals both the number and position of “interrupting” DNA sequences in the fragile X gene of the mother and more accurately estimates the likelihood that her child will have fragile X syndrome. The study will be published in the April issue of the American Journal of Medical Genetics and presented today at the 2013 American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Phoenix, AZ. But of course, you don’t want to get in trouble by sucking your own doctor’s c*ck or even involve in a three-way situation by inviting in a medical staff, like a nurse perhaps. Also you might want to change the position on the way you blow your partner’s organ. You may also want to relax when you are actually doing it. 2nd question: Does size really matter? Yes. Approximately one-third of teens may be missing annual checkups according to data from the US Department of Health and Human Services and the US Census. Teens often encounter social, emotional, and physical issues that may include eating disorders and obesity, substance abuse, and sexually transmitted infections. While experts agree that teens should get annual medical checkups to be screened for health risks and discuss important health-related matters, perceptions exist that may contribute to millions of teens missing out on yearly visits. To better understand perceptions about teen health, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID), in collaboration with, and with support from Pfizer Inc, conducted a national survey, fielded by Harris Interactive, of more than 2,000 parents of teens, teens, and healthcare professionals. The Preeclampsia Foundation today released the Illustrated Preeclampsia Symptoms Tear Pad, a patient education tool that was developed in collaboration with health services researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Ill. The tool effectively informs pregnant women, even those with potentially poor literacy, about preeclampsia. Because preeclampsia is a disorder that can have grave consequences for a mother and her unborn baby, the goal is for the tool to offer information in a way that allows women to assimilate and retain knowledge related to preeclampsia, leading them to promptly seek medical attention should they have symptoms related to preeclampsia. The number of gout patients is rising, with an estimated 8.3 million American adults diagnosed with gout—but only 10 percent of them are being properly treated, according to the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society. To heighten awareness and knowledge about gout and to lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment, the society has released two new comprehensive kits to educate patients and provide consistent information for medical professionals. The release of the Take a Stand on Gout Patient Education Kit and Medical Professional Information Kit coincides with Gout Awareness Day, an annual commemoration on May 22 to call attention to the growing incidence of gout and to enhance knowledge so as to improve patient outcomes. Both kits provide new, substantial information about gout from specialists, who treat gout patients every day. Inspired by the heartwarming smile of a child, and the millions of photos that moms proudly post online of their children every day, the TYLENOL® brand’s SMILING IT FORWARD™ campaign is a simple way to share those adorable, smiling photos for a good cause. The power of SMILING IT FORWARD™ was set in motion today by How I Met Your Mother star and social media mother of two, Alyson Hannigan. By sharing the first “smile” of her two daughters Satyana, 4, and Keeva, 1, Hannigan triggered the first donation from TYLENOL® to Children’s Health Fund, an organization well-known for its mobile medical clinics that provide healthcare services to underserved children throughout the U.S. Now, until mid-January, moms across the country can join in by sharing their own smiles at SmilingItForward.com, prompting TYLENOL® to make a $1 donation to Children’s Health Fund, up to $100,000, helping to ensure a doctor’s visit is always within reach for children in need.1 To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://www.multivu.com/mnr/62078-tylenol-moms-smiling-it-forward-alyson-hannigan-children-s-health-fund
