Two all-electric vehicles fall short of meeting the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s awards criteria, but consumers who want to minimize gas consumption while also prioritizing safety can choose from two plug-in hybrids that earn the 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.
The two recently evaluated all-electric models are the 2017 Tesla Model S and the 2017 BMW i3. The plug-in hybrid models are the Chevrolet Volt, whose award was announced in December, and the Toyota Prius Prime.
To qualify for the 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK award, a vehicle must earn good ratings in all five crashworthiness evaluations — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — and come with a front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating. The “plus” is awarded to vehicles that meet all those criteria and also come with good or acceptable headlights.

Der Volkswagen-Konzern geht in die Elektro-Offensive. Der Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid als Plug-in steht seit August bei den Händlern, den reinen Stromer e-up! im Kleinwagen-Segment gibt es ab Oktober zum Kampfpreis von 26.900 Euro in den VW-Autohäusern zu sehen. Und Anfang nächsten Jahres folgen der Audi A3 Sportback e-tron als Plug-in Hybrid und der Golf als reines Elektrofahrzeug, von dem es in 2014 zusätzlich ebenfalls eine Plug-in-Variante geben wird. Weitere Modelle werden folgen, um in jedem Segment einen Stromer oder einen Plug-in Hybrid anbieten zu können und das selbst gesteckte Ziel zu erreichen, bis 2018 der weltweit ökologisch führende Autokonzern zu sein. Dabei bleibt man im VW-Konzern realistisch. Trotz des Volks-Elektroautos e-up! werde der Anteil der reinen Stromer vorerst begrenzt sein. Bis 2018 hofft man aber auf einen Absatz von 300.000 Fahrzeugen mit Ladestecker.

The Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf earn the highest safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the first-ever U.S. crash test evaluations of plug-in electric cars. The milestone demonstrates that automakers are using the same safety engineering in new electric cars as they do in gasoline-powered vehicles.
The Volt and Leaf earn the top rating of good for front, side, rear, and rollover crash protection. With standard electronic stability control, they qualify as winners of TOP SAFETY PICK, the Institute’s award for state-of-the-art crash protection. The ratings help consumers pick vehicles that offer a higher level of protection than federal safety standards require.
Drive for Innovation is an initiative presented by UBM Electronics in partnership with Avnet Express, the e-Commerce engine for Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. Honda unveiled the dynamic Accord Coupe Concept today at the North American International Auto Show, providing the first official glimpse of the athletic styling direction, as well as revealing a host of new technologies for the all-new, ninth-generation 2013 model, set to go on-sale this fall.
The 2013 Accord will feature three all-new powertrains, including the first U.S. application of both a 2.4-liter direct-injected engine and two-motor plug-in hybrid system from Honda’s suite of next-generation Earth Dreams™ powertrain technologies. In addition, the V-6 Accord will be the first Honda sedan to feature a new 6-speed automatic transmission. Im Rahmen einer internationalen Presseveranstaltung hat der Panamera S E-Hybrid im Mittel über 42 Testfahrten mit Journalisten über eine Gesamtdistanz von mehr als 1.200 Kilometern nur 4,4 Liter auf 100 Kilometer verbraucht. Der Bestwert des weltweit ersten Plug-in-Hybrid-Modells in der Luxusklasse lag auf einer Runde sogar bei lediglich 2,8 l/100 km. Das zeigt, dass sich im realen Alltagsbetrieb durchaus Verbrauchwerte in der Größenordnung des NEFZ-Verbauchs erzielen lassen, der 3,1 l/100 km beträgt. Und das, obwohl die insgesamt vier vollkommen serienmäßigen Panamera S E-Hybrid jeweils mit drei bis vier Personen besetzt waren, die Klimaanlagen eingeschaltet waren und auf der Autobahnetappe auf bis zu 230 km/h beschleunigt wurde. Die insgesamt 28,7 Kilometer lange Testrunde durch und um die Stadt Hockenheim herum setzte sich aus 6,5 Kilometer Stadtfahrt, 9,2 Kilometer Landstraßen und 13 Kilometer zum Teil unlimitierte Autobahn zusammen. Voraussetzung zum Erreichen solcher Werte ist, dass die Auflademöglichkeit der 9,4-kWh-Lithium-Ionen-Batterie am Stromnetz konsequent genutzt wird. Ebenfalls in der Praxis bestätigt wurde die rein elektrische Reichweite von 36 Kilometern mit einem Verbrauch von 0,0 l/100 km und ohne lokale Emissionen, die somit nicht nur im NEFZ auf dem Prüfstand, sondern auch auf der Straße erreichbar ist. Und das sogar mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 54 km/h, während diese im NEFZ lediglich 33 km/h beträgt. Rein elektrisch angetrieben ist der Panamera mit dem neuen Hybridantrieb bis zu 135 km/h schnell.

Bis zum Jahr 2018 hat Sich der VW-Konzern das Ziel gesetzt weltweiter Marktführer bei der Elektromobilität zu sein. Vorboten seien die rein batteriegetriebenen e-up! und e-Golf sowie die Plug-in Hybriden Audi A3 etron und Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid. Doch bereits in 2014 würden 14 Modelle mit Elektro- oder Hybridantrieben zur Verfügung stehen. Und bei entsprechender Nachfrage könnten mittelfristig bis zu 40 neue Modelle mit alternativen Antrieben ausgerüstet werden. Ein Novum ist auch die Produktion dieser Fahrzeuge auf den ganz normalen Produktionsbändern.
