Kuran, ortaya çıktığı çağın kısıtlı ve ilkel bilimsel bilgilerini olduğu gibi yansıtmaktadır. Bugün ancak peri masallarına ve mitolojilere konu olabilek türden bir evren tasvirinin yer aldığı Kuran hiçbir güncel bilimsel bulguyla örtüşmemektedir.
Dünyanın alenen düz olduğu, göklerin görünmez direklerle havada tutulduğu, yıldızların kıyamette dünyaya düşecekleri, doğuya ve batıya yürünerek güneşin ve ayın toprağa battığının görülebileceği gibi ifadeler bize bu kitabın insan ürünü olduğunu işaret etmektedir.
Klişe bir laf ama adamlar uzaya araç gönderirken, İslam dünyasında hâlâ dünya düz mü değil mi diye tartışılması gerçekten trajik. Bu tartışma birçok müslümana bile saçma gelecektir eminim. Ancak konu din olunca ve her şeyin ölçütü kutsal kitaplar olarak görüldüğünde, gerçeklerin orada yazanlara uydurulması bilindik bir durum haline gelmekte. İşte bu sebeple, 1975 yılında Suudi Arabistan'ın en önemli din otoritesi kabul edilen Şeyh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz tarafından Dünya'nın düz olduğu fetvası verilmiş ve buna inanmayanların dinsiz kabul edilerek, cezelandırılması gerektiği bildirilmiştir. Bugün, ülkemizde, hadisleri baz alarak Adem'in dinozorlarla aynı dönemde yaşadığını ve 30 m. uzunlukta olduğunu söyleyen biyoloji profesörlerimiz varken, dünyanın düz olduğunu söyleyen uzmanlar hiçbir müslümanı da şaşırtmamalı. ("Kuran'da Dünya'nın düz olarak geçtiğini söyleyenlere itirazınız var da, evrim yalandır diyenlere niye yok?" diye bir soru yönlendirilebilir kendilerine.)
Şüphesiz buna inananlar sadece müslümanlar değil. 1956 yılında Britanya'da, Flat Earth Society (Düz Dünya Cemiyeti) adıyla, Dünya'nın düz olduğunu savunan ve bugün hala aktif olan bir organizasyon bile kuruldu. Bilim karşıtlığı hiçbir zaman popülaritesini yitirmiyor.

Pek çok hayvan (buna biz insanlar da dahiliz) problem çözme yetisine sahipler. Beyinlerini kullanmayı ve düşünmeyi gerektiren pek çok bilmecenin altından rahatlıkla kalkıyorlar. Ancak bugün hala ilkel inançlardan doğan bir söylem almış başını gidiyor: "Hayvanlar düşünemez, Allah aklı sadece insana bahşetmiştir."
Kendimizi üstün görme anlayışına sahip olduğumuz ne yazık ki bir gerçek. Bu durum akrabalarımızın ve diğer canlıların başarılarını hep gözardı etmemize ya da önyargıyla yaklaşmamıza sebep oluyor. Sadece primatlar değil pek çok türden canlı bugün düşünmelerini gerektiren zeka problemlerinin üstesinden ustalıkla geliyorlar.
Bilimi, gerçekleri anlatmak suç değildir. Biyolojinin temeli olan evrim, hak ettiği şekilde müfredetta yer almalıdır. Bugün bunu yapanlara yarın, dünya düz diyenlere gülündüğü gibi gülünecektir.

As the weather gets warmer, these backyard invaders can prevent homeowners from reaping the benefits of living life outside. According to a recent online survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of TruGreen, among over 2,000 U.S. adults, 85 percent of Americans say that mosquitoes limit their or their family’s outdoor activities during the months they’re most active. The same survey also found that nearly two thirds of Americans (64 percent) are concerned about protecting themselves and their family from Zika or other mosquito-borne illnesses. Furthermore, 65 percent of Americans use bug spray on themselves/their family to combat mosquitoes outdoors at home and though it’s the top response for preventative measures, still only half (51 percent) say it is most effective at preventing mosquitoes from biting outdoors at home.
