The Art Institutes schools are dedicated to providing students with hands-on, real-world education, in- and outside of the classroom. With a career-focused curriculum, experienced faculty and a range of community-based projects, students test their ideas against the needs of the real world.
One unique example is Student Studio: Bonnaroo. In partnership with the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, students from several Art Institutes schools are producing projects to make their creative mark on this year’s festival, June 9-12. The assignment was to create 15 student projects across all four areas of study at The Art Institutes: design, media arts, fashion and culinary.

Sydney Festival opened its 2012 program with Australia’s largest free outdoor cultural event, Festival First Night, attracting hundreds of thousands of people into the city centre for eight hours of music, theatre, dance and visual arts. Headlining the event was internationally-acclaimed music superstar Manu Chao, who had 60,000 people dancing to his unique blend of Latin reggae. Audiences thrilled to a mix of Australian and international entertainment including a 1950s swing dance, painted caravans, Australian singer-songwriter Meagan Washington, Indigenous singer Gurrumul and dapper Jamaican gents, The Jolly Boys. The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world’s premier culinary college, sent six of its distinguished faculty and degree program students to catch fish off the coast of Louisiana in Plaquemines Parish and experience firsthand the purity and taste of the region’s seafood.
The team of four chefs and two culinary arts students from the CIA’s Hyde Park, New York campus toured the Parish and sampled shrimp, crab, oysters, tuna, and snapper straight from its waters. The two-day tour culminated in “A Celebration of America’s Best Seafood,” a four-course dinner at the historic Woodland Plantation.
