Today, the manufacturing industry made history, breaking the Guinness World Record for the “World’s Largest Coin Mosaic” during the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS). In an effort to raise awareness of the vital role the manufacturing industry plays in the U.S. economy and the opportunities it presents for the next generation of workers, the mosaic incorporated more than $65,000 worth of coins – the amount of money manufacturing contributes to the U.S. economy each second. Work intensity among European workers is still high, and it has not increased over the past five years, according to the first findings of the 5th European Working Conditions Survey, out today. The survey also found that for most workers (67%), the pace of work is set by direct demands from people and working at high speeds remains high. The extent to which workers can make their own decisions about how they do their job has not improved, leaving a large number of workers ill-equipped to deal with work’s demands. European workers also remain as exposed to physical hazards, however, as they did 20 years ago. To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/prne/eurofound/46312/

If you’re seeking a strong human interest story, then take a look at the European Social Fund. Far from being a set of dry statistics, the ESF is the framework for thousands of fascinating tales of individual human endeavour. In response to the economic crisis, the ESF is helping 10 million Europeans a year to overcome obstacles and get their lives back on track. It invests €10 billion annually in projects that enable individuals to train in a new skill, find a better job, set up a business, and much more. The ESF was launched over 50 years ago, and since then it has expanded to meet the changing needs of Europe’s population. From just 1% of the EU budget in 1970, it now accounts for 10%. Between 2007 and 2013, some €75 billion is being invested. To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/prne/europeancommission/44185/
