This is Opera Australia's most ambitious project ever, costing $11.5m with over 130 performers, 240 Opera Australia staff and 60 volunteers. Vivid Sydney (23 May – 9 June) was officially opened tonight by the NSW Premier Mike Baird, as the Sails of iconic Sydney Opera House came alive with world–exclusive, stunning 3D–mapped projections, and the Harbour City was filled with colour and light.
Vivid Sydney, the largest light, music and ideas festival in the Southern Hemisphere, and Australia’s Event of the Year, features a huge, free nightly light show of lighting installations, building projections and water theatre around Sydney harbour from 6pm until midnight, as well as live music performances and over 200 creative industry events.

In February 2012, Sydney’s iconic Manly Beach will be swimming with surfers and buzzing with tourists and spectators as it hosts the inaugural Australian Open of Surfing event from February 11-19. The Australian Open of Surfing will go far beyond the traditional boundaries of a surfing event, creating a significant experience that promotes the energy of Sydney’s outdoor lifestyle, with a nine-day festival of surfing, skate, music, fashion and art specifically aimed at the youth traveler (18 to 30 year olds).
