Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), today on Giving Tuesday, is dispelling stereotypes about female leadership and demonstrating the importance of investing in girls who make a difference in the world. A newly unveiled Girl Scout PSA and anthem bring to life the unique Girl Scout programming that enables girls—from kindergarten through high school—to practice leadership. This new campaign effort is revealed alongside preliminary data that, for the first time, articulates what girls are doing on a daily basis to take the lead and make the world a better place. The Girl Scout program encourages girls to be leaders at every age, and a donation to Girl Scouts on Giving Tuesday goes further than the Girl Scout organization—it is an investment in girls who, in turn, invest their time, talents, and leadership in the present and future well-being of our world.

2009'da TÜBİTAK Bilim ve Teknik Dergisi'ndeki Darwin skandalından (http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/gundem/111...) sonra başlayan evrim tartışmaları ekranlara da yansımıştı. Celal Şengör ise jeoloji profesörü olmasına rağmen ilahiyat öğrencilerinin bilim ve evrim karşıtı (daha doğrusu ezberleyip geldikleri) sorularına ustalıkla cevap vermişti.
Programın başlarında Şengör'ün insanın evrimini anlatma çabalarına rağmen, soru-cevap bölümüne gelindiğinde eğitim sisteminin kurbanı bir neslin Dunning-Kruger sendromundan nasıl nasiplendiğine tanık olduk. Bu kısımdaki genç de konuyla ilgili en ufak bir bilgisi olmamasına rağmen bir bilim insanına kafa tutmak için ezber bellediği soruları kendinden çok emin bir şekilde soruyor ve sorularına tek tek cevap geldikçe daha da hırslanıyor. Konuyu öğrenmek ve anlamak için sormadığı çok açık değil mi? O salonda kulaklarını gerçeklere kapatmış kitlenin toplumun çoğunluğunu oluşturması da bir o kadar acı değil mi? Clayton home building group, Clayton Homes of Pelham and Jesus Works Ministry, a multi-congregation outreach program headquartered at the Alabaster First United Methodist Church, have teamed up to donate a home to Ava Woods, a church nurse at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Alabaster, Ala.
Woods was identified by Jesus Works Ministry, which includes a dozen area congregations, as a person in need of a home after she submitted a request to have her floor repaired. Upon seeing the state of her home, project organizers began the process of getting Woods a completely new home.

Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, is promising that you will never have to stop at a petrol station, go to a car wash or even take your car in for service ever again, with the launch of a range of concierge services that will become an integrated part of the Volvo On Call mobile platform.
Volvo is announcing the roll-out of a pilot program in San Francisco, targeting Volvo owners driving the new XC90 SUV and S90 luxury sedan. In an effort to make their customers’ lives easier, Volvo has dug deep into consumer research to deliver on their customers’ unmet needs. The pilot is due to start in November and will ramp up to include around 300 Volvo owners.
“Imagine parking your car in the morning at work and when you head home your car has been serviced, cleaned and refuelled. These are the kind of services we want to deliver to our customers. Our research shows that people spend hours every week doing these small errands – we want to give that time back to Volvo drivers, so they can do something more valuable instead,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President, Global Consumer Experience at Volvo Car Group.

A blast of colors lit up the sky today at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida above the new Heroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame presented by Boeing. But not because of a rocket launch!
A spirited pyrotechnics display marked the opening of the new attraction, which was attended by more than 25 veteran and current NASA astronauts, including revered Gemini and Apollo space program astronauts Buzz Aldrin, James Lovell and Thomas Stafford. They were joined by the adult children of the late-astronauts Alan Shepard and Neil Armstrong, as well as representatives from NASA, The Boeing Company and Delaware North.

The American Cancer Society and the CVS Health Foundation today awarded grants to 20 U.S. colleges and universities as part of their Tobacco-Free Generation Campus Initiative (TFGCI), a $3.6 million multi-year program intended to accelerate and expand the adoption and implementation of 100 percent smoke- and tobacco-free campus policies. The announcement coincides this week with the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout.
The Tobacco-Free Generation Campus Initiative is part of Be The First, CVS Health's five-year, $50 million initiative that supports education, advocacy, tobacco control, and healthy behavior programming to help deliver the nation’s first tobacco-free generation. CVS Health has set actionable and measurable goals for Be The First, including a doubling of the number of tobacco-free college and university campuses in the United States.

FedEx Office and eBay have teamed up to bring the eBay Valet Drop-Off Program to more than 1,600 FedEx Office retail stores, making it easier for consumers to sell items online and earn money. With kids back in school and the holiday season right around the corner, now is the perfect time to clear the home of items no longer needed, such as electronics, small appliances, sporting goods and more to make some extra money. According to a recent survey by the National Retail Federation, the average household has more than 50 extra or unused items worth more than $3,000, if sold on eBay.
The eBay Valet Drop-Off Program is designed to make selling items as simple as possible. Customers bring their items to the nearest participating FedEx Office location. Once in the store, trained FedEx Office team members can help set up an eBay account from an in-store tablet or log in to an existing account. They will then vet items to ensure they can be sold on eBay. FedEx Office then packs and ships items to the nearest eBay Valet processing center where they will be listed and sold. Once the item sells, customers receive payment via PayPal, with updates and notifications throughout the process.

Just for fun, I decided to try recording my voice and I discovered that once again I can sing through my sound system and so I'm giving my vocoloid program a break as I am once again singing the lead vocal work. I still used my vocoloid program for the backup vocals to the chorus of this song .... I love collaborating with my computer .... Even if it does terminate my voice from time to time. As long as it doesn't try to terminate me because I'm the one who hold's the hammer ..... and the remote control.

Lupe Maldonado will tell you, “education is key.” That’s because it’s what helped her and her family create a brighter future. Their story started in a garage in Torrance, Calif., more than 20 years ago. That’s where they lived when they came to the U.S. No bathroom. No running water; a mattress on the bare floor. They covered up the holes to keep out the cold and the mice. While it may have been a bleak start, Lupe says just being in America was a dream come true.
While Ismael worked 12 hour days to support his family, Lupe joined a new program at her son’s elementary school called the Toyota Family Literacy Program in order to learn English. It was a tough decision, going to school instead of getting a job that could provide the money needed to move out of that garage; but Ismael and Lupe knew if she could learn English, she could advocate for their boys with teachers, doctors and in the community. Ismael also enrolled in English classes.

Chocolate-lovers beware! Zombies in search of their next victim haunt Jean Philippe Pâtisserie at Bellagio and ARIA with Halloween-themed displays at both iconic pastry shop locations. From gory and gruesome body parts to whimsical cakes and pastries, the displays cater to every guest, no matter how they prefer to celebrate the holiday. Executive Pastry Chef Claude Escamilla and his talented team worked diligently for eight months to create more than 45 festive showpieces that place the undead at center stage. With a year of planning, countless sketches and hundreds of ideas from skilled pastry artists, the final display showcases their hard work through a cake closely resembling human flesh, tombstones straight out of a horror movie and many more hair-raising pieces.
“I was very much inspired by my favorite TV program, “The Walking Dead,” said Escamilla. “When I was watching the show, I kept thinking about how I could take the characters and turn them into life-size creations for the holiday.”
