Cuba was witness once again to the largest annual international event celebrating the Habano culture. The festival has come to an end with the celebration of the Gala Evening that paid tribute to the Cohiba brand on its 50th Anniversary, with exclusive tastings of its new releases. The gala hosted 1,200 guests that enjoyed live performances by Cuban pianist and composer, Chucho Valdes; the Spanish flamenco singer, Estrella Morente; and the Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler.
This year the traditional humidor auction of seven collector items reached a total of 865.000€ that will be entirely donated to the Cuban Public Health System. This edition has been especially unique thanks to the auction of the first humidor (01/50) of the exclusive special series “Cohiba 50 Aniversario”, which raised 320.000 euros. This humidor is an authentic work of art and a unique collector's item, and heralds a true innovation in terms of traditional craftsmanship and technical design and development.
During the evening, the “Maestro de Maestros” was chosen in the XV International Habanosommelier Contest. The winner was Juan Jesús Machín from Cuba. Luis Manuel García Urrea (United Arab Emirates) and Pedro Tejeda (Cuba) were runners-up in second and third place respectively.

Zoës Kitchen (NYSE: ZOES), a fast casual Mediterranean-inspired restaurant group, today introduced several unique ingredients to their menu, bringing the flavors and benefits of Mediterranean eating to guests via four new menu offerings.
Innovating within the restaurant space, Zoës Kitchen is the first restaurant group to introduce the lupini bean to the United States, adding this protein-packed, mild-flavored legume to their menu across 170 restaurants in 17 states. Farro will also be incorporated in the menu, an ancient, savory, fiber-rich grain that is commonly used in place of pasta and rice in the Mediterranean. Calabrian peppers, from Calabria, Italy, will add a slightly sweet and mildly spicy flavor to several dishes. Light and crispy piadina flatbread will offer guests an alternative to traditional breads used for sandwiches in the US.

Havana will host the XVIII edition of the Habanos Festival, from February 29 to March 4, and present the most important launches for 2016. This year, Cohiba, the most exclusive Habanos brand, will play a special role because of its 50 Anniversary. The Hoyo de Monterrey brand will also have a significant presence with the presentation of Reserva Cosecha 2012. The Cuaba brand, celebrating its 20th Anniversary, will be launching an exclusive special edition for La Casa del Habano and the H. Upmann brand will introduce a significant addition to its regular line.
For five days, the guests attending the XVIII Habanos Festival will enjoy a full agenda focused on the world’s best tobacco. The Festival will begin with the Trade Fair, on February 29, that will attract over 1.500 attendants from more than 50 countries. The Welcome Evening, at the Old Tobacco and Wood Warehouse, will feature the presentation of Hoyo de Monterrey Reserva Reserva 2012.

Tourism Australia has launched its latest campaign, which is focused on highlighting the country’s world-class aquatic and coastal experiences, in a bid to lure more international visitors to Australia.
The new creative, the latest instalment in Tourism Australia’s global There’s Nothing like Australia campaign, was officially unveiled at an event in New York on Australia Day eve attended by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Julie Bishop.
Guests at the event were treated to immersive ‘virtual reality’ displays and aquatic-themed images being projected onto the ice rink at the famous Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park alongside the reveal of a new broadcast ad, featuring a voiceover by Australian actor and new Tourism Australia global ambassador Chris Hemsworth. The event was hosted by Australian chef Curtis Stone and guests enjoyed a specially designed Australian menu by Luke Mangan.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® officials and guests today marked the opening of the St. Jude Red Frog Events Proton Therapy Center, the first proton therapy center in the world dedicated solely to children with cancer.
Patients are now being treated at the center using precisely delivered, high-energy particles called protons to kill or shrink tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue and organs. For patients with brain tumors and certain other cancers, research suggests proton beam therapy may be more effective than conventional radiation at preventing the growth and spread of tumors while reducing the risk of treatment-related side effects.
