McGruff the Crime Dog is about to “Take A Bite Out Of Crime,” specifically financial and investment fraud. Researchers estimate that consumer financial fraud cost Americans over $50 billion a year. The National Mining Association (NMA) called on policymakers to reject an ill-conceived administration proposal that would jeopardize America’s electric grid and threaten the economic well-being of consumers and businesses. The American Transaction Processors Coalition (ATPC) formally launched today with a panel discussion in front of 400 industry employees, chamber of commerce executives, university leadership and elected officials from Congress, the Georgia General Assembly and local governments across metro Atlanta.
More than 40,000 employees work directly for 70-plus Georgia-based transaction processing companies within an area known as Transaction Alley. These companies generated more than $30 billion last year, far exceeding other well-known Georgia industries like life sciences at $17 billion or film at $3 billion. Transaction Alley revenues equal that of the entire U.S. movie industry, and is dominated by Atlanta, just as Los Angeles dominates films.

Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Angie Goodwin of Calhoun, Ky., as the winner of the Grand Prize 2014 Rare Life Award. Eagle Rare will donate $40,000 to Goodwin’s charity, Thumbs Up for Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation, and host an awards ceremony in Henderson on March 7.
