Denn die Kombi-Version ist kein bloßes Anhängsel des Schrägheck-Modells mit angesetztem „Rucksack“, sondern weist ein eigenständiges Profil auf. Und bietet zu einem Mehrpreis von 1.775 Euro erheblich mehr Stauvolumen – in der Standard-Konfiguration mit 605 Litern immerhin 225 Liter mehr. Wer sich sicher ist, dass das Auto stets nur mit maximal zwei Personen besetzt ist und weder längere Urlaubsreisen noch ständig größere Einkäufe bei einem Baumarkt anfallen, dürfte sich die Mehrkosten sparen. Doch schon bei einer vierköpfigen Familie könnte der Variant eine Überlegung wert sein, zumal der Kombi sich weitaus stärker als das Schrägheck-Modell von seinem Vorgänger unterscheidet. Den Designern ist es hier gelungen, die wie die Sehne eines Bogens mit eingesetztem Pfeil gespannte Form der für den Golf so typischen C-Säulen auf die D-Säulen des Variant zu übertragen.
