On May 8, 1945 the world celebrated the end of World War II in Europe, but for some young American children it represented the beginning of a lifetime without their fathers. It’s estimated that more than 180,000 American children were left fatherless after the war. “War always leaves behind dead soldiers, grieving widows, grieving parents and children, who have suffered a loss over which they have no control,” said Geraldine Conway Morenski, whose father is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery.

It’s normal to have uric acid in your body, but too much can increase your risk for gout – an extremely painful form of inflammatory arthritis that often presents with other health issues, including kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes and permanent joint and tissue damage. Despite this, just 10 percent of gout sufferers are being properly treated – and more than one-third have not had their uric acid checked in the past five years.
To raise awareness about the need for timely treatment for gout – including regular monitoring of serum uric acid (sUA) levels – the Gout & Uric Acid Education Society (GUAES) has introduced a new “Go for Six” campaign. The campaign urges those who have or who are at risk for gout to get their sUA levels checked every six months, and to work with their doctor to determine a treatment plan for controlling gout and keeping sUA levels to a healthy 6 mg/dL or below.

At the end of February 2015, a lantern donation and lighting ceremony was held in the village of Sone, in Indonesia's West Timor, as part of a related project. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) today issued a warning to the public about an organized scam involving sales of vehicles through the popular online market place, Craigslist.
Working with law enforcement agencies in the Chicago area and across the Midwest, NICB has identified nearly 100 instances of sales of vehicles that went sour when phony bank checks were used to pay for the vehicle.
“These scams are well organized and have all the appearances of being legitimate,” said NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. “But in the end, the criminal gets the car and the sellers or their financial institutions are left on the hook for thousands of dollars still owed on the car.”

The creative collaboration between Swedish artist/producer Avicii and Volvo Cars for their new brand campaign features a reworking of the classic song Feeling Good. Filmed on location in Stockholm and Osterlen, southern Sweden, the video visits places of personal significance for Avicii and tells his own story of renewal, following several years of hard touring. The video also features members of his family and close friends.
“In the past six years I have been on a never-ending tour, apart for the last nine months during my time-out. I did around 325 shows in a year with traveling on top of that. It couldn’t continue. In the end I had to re-evaluate my situation and change my lifestyle. Sweden is an important place to me, it’s where I gather my strength and energy with family and friends. This song and video will probably be most appreciated by fellow musicians. Especially those who do programming. This was one of my first experimental songs that I tried out on FL 5 out back in 2005. It was my 3rd composition. This dates back farther than anything that I've previously uploaded to Youtube. This baby was my prototype that laid down the ground work for the simpler projects that I perform now. I wasn't even singing at that time yet. At least not solo. I did however lay down 100 vocal tracks of "Ahs" and mixed them down to 1 track on this 400 track project.
My first goal was to compose an original European style song and learn how to do so on this new program. I decided to use my imagination and give it a live concert sound. For this, I uploaded a lot of various audience sound effects from Limewire. I added my own whistling which I'm sure that my neighbors appreciated. What I amazed myself with was how I was able to take the stock FL hand claps which are usually dry for rap music and transform them into a concert sounding audience clapping, most notably on the drum solo which was another adventure in itself. I cloned as many hand clap that I needed to emulate the sound and altered their pitch and offset their timing for a more human sounding crowd effect.
Knowing that I would want to be very versatile with my percussion work, I figured that a drum solo would be the best way for me to test my potential. I've personally have never heard anything like this on a program like FL or any other virtual program. Normally if I intend to upload an older project, I'll upgrade and replace the older sounds with the better sounds that I use now but I've decided to leave this one exactly the way I had left it...Cobwebs and all. Besides, I have no idea as to how I actually came up with this stuff. It looks like an endless maze of tracks. As far as the video goes....I took out my camera and snapped a few back yard shots. My back yard is beautiful at this time of year.
