Even the panel of “odor specialists” resisted the urge to cover their noses as pungent smells emanated from the smelliest sneakers in this year’s Annual National Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest. Ready to be judged, seven kids, ages seven to sixteen, from across the country have arrived in Montpelier today, selected as national finalists, wearing the decrepit and odorous rubber-soles that won them regional recognition.
In its 37th year, the National Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest is the ultimate test of just how dirty and stinky sneakers can get when they’re part of an active kid’s life, going where they go, through puddles, mud and all. Sneakers are judged on the conditions of the sole, tongue, heel, toe, laces or velcro, eyelets/grommets, overall condition and most important ODOR, by a panel that includes NASA “Master Sniffer” George Aldrich, Chemical Specialist for NASA space missions, and Rachel Herz, Ph.D., a professor at Brown University and author of The Scent of Desire and That’s Disgusting.

Six Flags Great Adventure, America’s largest regional theme park, today announced the addition of King Cobra, an intense and visually-stunning, racing tube slide, opening at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Summer 2012.
King Cobra promises one of the most extreme riding experiences in the industry while also delivering great spectator appeal. Complete with bold orange, black and yellow scales to resemble a massive cobra on both the interior and exterior, this slide tower will be the first of its kind anywhere in the United States. King Cobra’s unique configuration enables two tubes to race through a circular path with twists, turns and surprises through enclosed and open sections of the slide at speeds up to 32 miles per hour. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is expanding the First Class cabin on more than 60 percent of its mainline domestic fleet – approximately 350 aircraft – as it responds to business customers’ requests for more premium cabin seating.
By summer 2013, Delta will add more than 1,200 First Class seats to its domestic MD-88, MD-90, Boeing 757-200 and Boeing 767-300 aircraft as it retrofits and upgrades the aircraft interiors. The initiative, which follows the addition of First Class cabins to all Delta Connection regional jets with more than 60 seats, does not impact Delta’s previously announced capacity guidance.
