Volvo Cars’ design team have completely re-imagined how children could travel safely in cars in the future.
The move follows the Shanghai reveal of the XC90 Excellence and the Lounge Console Concept, which marked a bold and luxurious step forward for the Swedish car brand.
“We started by asking ourselves if we could make life easier for parents and safer for their children when it comes to the child seat experience. We focused on three key benefits – making it easier to get the child into and out of the child seat from an ergonomic and comfort perspective, providing the child with a safe rearward facing seating position that enables it to keep eye-contact with either the driver or the rear passenger and of course including enough storage for those vital child accessories, such as diapers, bottles, wipes, and so on,” said Tisha Johnson, Chief Designer Interiors at Volvo Cars Concept and Monitoring Centre.

While car thefts are declining across the country, the thefts of some parts and accessories are proving to be a lucrative business for professional thieves.
In the Detroit area, it’s become a huge problem that’s costing consumers, insurance companies, car dealers and car rental companies.
“We hear all this good news about auto theft being down in Michigan, but unfortunately, what’s replaced that is component theft,” said Terri Miller, executive director of Help Eliminate Auto Thefts (HEAT). “Because it’s harder to steal an entire vehicle these days, they’re stealing the parts. The tires and rims are not marked and they are very, very marketable.”

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity today released a new report “Energy Cost Impacts on Families” that details the plight of American households who are significantly harmed by rising energy costs.
The study finds that on average nearly half of America’s households are bringing home $1,900 a month, less than $23,000 annually, and spending 17 percent of those hard-earned dollars on energy. Low and fixed income families, including minorities and senior citizens, are among the most vulnerable to energy price increases and frequently must make tough choices about what to do to meet energy costs.
“No one should go without food or medication to keep the lights on but that’s exactly what is taking place in millions of households across America,” said Mike Duncan, president and CEO of ACCCE. “Regulations like EPA’s calamitous Clean Power Plan will only exacerbate the economic struggles families face, making it all that much harder to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. This administration should put Americans ahead of its politically charged agenda and immediately take action to ensure vulnerable families are not harmed further by these reckless regulations.”

It won’t cure the common cold, but Appvion, Inc.’s new eco-friendly receipt paper, Alpha Free, proves vitamin C works wonders at the cash register.
Alpha Free is the first and only thermal receipt paper to use a vitamin C formulation in place of phenols like BPA or BPS. Whole Foods Market is now the first major national grocery retailer in America to use the new, natural and sustainable choice in receipt paper that shoppers can feel good about at checkout.
”In the last few years, multiple studies concluded that BPA found in receipts can be absorbed into the skin. If you are someone who handles receipts daily, like a cashier, that can be scary,“ said Dave Pauly, Alpha Free Product Manager for Appvion. ”A growing number of shoppers and employees are looking for more natural product options. That movement encouraged us to develop our vitamin C-based receipt paper, Alpha Free.“

Monster (NYSE: MWW), a global leader in connecting people to jobs, and Brandwatch, the leading social intelligence company, today announced the results of a year-long social media study of more than 1.1 million tweets in the United States analyzing exactly who, what, when, where and why people take to Twitter to discuss how they feel about their jobs.
“It’s certainly not just the weather nor differences in temperament that drove the disparity between people in the east hating their jobs and people in the west loving them,” said Joanie Courtney, Senior Vice President, Global Market Insights at Monster. “Job satisfaction is an often fluid, temporary sensation, and social channels deliver people the opportunity to express those sentiments with greater ease than ever before. The results indicate an opportunity for companies to focus on embracing existing talent to move the ‘love-hate needle,’ as well as those Tweeting to translate their skills for new opportunities to find something better.”

On May 8, 1945 the world celebrated the end of World War II in Europe, but for some young American children it represented the beginning of a lifetime without their fathers. It’s estimated that more than 180,000 American children were left fatherless after the war. “War always leaves behind dead soldiers, grieving widows, grieving parents and children, who have suffered a loss over which they have no control,” said Geraldine Conway Morenski, whose father is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery.
