Voices of Meningitis, a public health initiative of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) in collaboration with Sanofi Pasteur, announced today the launch of Get in the Game: Keeping Teens Healthy, a new program to help educate parents on the danger and prevention of meningococcal disease. Get in the Game will help raise awareness about the serious consequences of the disease and motivate parents to speak with their children's health care professional about vaccinating against meningococcal disease in advance of each sports season.

When Hans Blix is keynote speaking on the conference of the World Veterans Federation, the Peace and Security Summit, in Stockholm this May, he wants to help spread the stories of the veterans. “The public are not so familiar with what experiences the veterans have, and should listen to them,” says Hans Blix.

Kate Hudson was in Washington, D.C. for the ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Forum. As we speak, the world’s largest message-in-a-bottle is being towed 200 nautical miles off the coast of Tenerife where it will be released to the ocean currents tonight. The bottle which is registered as a boat, was constructed by the owner of Koeningsegg, baptized by world know explorer Jarle Andhøy – and Miss Tenerife – and will be tweeting photos live via satellite.

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Avon Foundation for Women Ambassador Salma Hayek Pinault and Avon Products, Inc. CEO Sheri McCoy announced that four global organizations and one government campaign have received 2nd Avon Communications Awards: Speaking Out About Violence Against Women for their outstanding work to bring attention to the need to end violence against women. The awards, presented at the United Nations Headquarters during the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, are part of the Avon Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program, which has donated nearly $50 million globally to end violence against women since its launch in 2004.
