We are changing the way students view higher education, making university degrees online attainable for everyone—even those with the busiest schedule. *Classes will count toward a student’s degree if satisfactorily completed. No credits are earned if the student withdraws during the introductory period. The introductory period is five weeks, and begins on day one of the student’s first academic term. If a student chooses to opt out at any point during the introductory period, he or she will have no obligation to the University other than the application fee. Only available to new students; continuing students are not eligible. “What can you do in 5 weeks? Climb the sixth-highest mountain in the world… and do it after 50. You could build a 25 foot 9 inch house of cards with 1800 decks of cards… and a whole lot of patience. You (and a friend) could ride a motorcycle from Alaska to Argentina. You could watch a complete baseball game in all thirty major league ballparks. That’s a lot of hot dogs. Why not run 7 marathons, on 7 continents. You could build a spaceship and launch your dog into orbit. The Soviet Union did it. Real people did all these things…so what could you do in 5 weeks? Something extraordinary. Attend real classes for real credits at Kaplan University- and only pay if you stay. Five weeks to see if Kaplan University is the right fit for you. Five weeks to pursue your passion. What can you do in 5 weeks? Find out for yourself. That’s the Kaplan commitment.”

When beginning her journey at Kaplan University, Michell Sturgis was unsure how the demands of working full time and college course work would impact her life. Kaplan University’s flexible learning schedule and online degree programs allowed her to complete her assignments at her own pace while still being able to spend quality time with her daughter. Michell took the next step forward from her associate’s degree to earning her bachelor’s degree online. Like many other Kaplan University students, Michell trusted the Kaplan name. With Kaplan University comes the knowledge that we’re an accredited online university* and that our business and management degrees are well- received in corporations all over the country. Our online courses cater to working adults with responsibilities that extend beyond the typical 9 to 5. If working while attending college is your reality, our online School of Business and Management sets us apart from other online colleges. We offer extensive resources to our students to aid in their academic success. Attending business school online can seem daunting, but current Kaplan University students will tell you that professors are readily available through e-mail, instant messaging, phone calls, and office hours. If earning an online bachelor’s degree is part of your plan, come see what Kaplan University’s many online learning programs have to offer. *Kaplan University is regionally accredited. See our website for details. † Kaplan University's programs are designed to prepare graduates to pursue employment in their field of study, or in related fields. However, the University does not guarantee that graduates will be placed in any particular job, eligible for job advancement opportunities, or employed at all. Additional training or certification may be required. “When I decided to come back to school and pursue my bachelor’s degree I did have a fear of how I was going to fit the studies into my schedule. It had been quite a while since I graduated with my associate’s degree. I was already working full time when I started here at Kaplan [University], and I’m also a parent. I have a 7-year-old daughter and it was really helpful that they were really flexible and they offered classes during the day and the evening. Kaplan [University] started offering online classes for my degree which really ended up being helpful to me because I didn’t have to be here on campus all of the time and I could get work done at night after I got my daughter to bed. I chose to study business management because I want to one day have my own business. Now that I have graduated from Kaplan [University], I am still working full time. I work as a case manager at a shelter for domestic violence. My business degree has contributed to my current job because I am able to move into different areas at my workplace and move more into the administrative side of things instead of the direct care and that was one of my goals. Since graduating from Kaplan University my life has changed. For one, I am more confident when it comes to applying for jobs. It has also changed in my home life with my daughter; she is very proud of me—that her mom is successful and that is important to me.”

Every year, more than 55,000 people around the world die from rabies. In response, nearly 20 million dogs are needlessly and cruelly killed in misguided attempts to control the disease. Today, on World Rabies Day, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is calling for “Collars Not Cruelty” and asking governments worldwide to tackle rabies through the only humane and effective solution: mass vaccination of dogs. Today’s U.S. healthcare providers face a three-pronged deluge of demands from patients, insurance companies, and the government. To successfully address these new and evolving expectations, members of the medical sector must leverage the capabilities of new wireless technologies – or fall behind their more savvy competitors. Frost & Sullivan recently published a whitepaper, Mobile Devices and Healthcare: What’s New, What Fits, and How Do You Decide?, which examines the strengths and drawbacks of four major mobile device types – smartphones, tablets, push-to-talk communication devices, and machine-to-machine (M2M) remote medical monitoring devices. Each device category is evaluated for application in three unique environments – the hospital, physician’s office, and the patient’s home. Criteria for selecting a mobility partner are also discussed. To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/frostsullivan/51532/

Work intensity among European workers is still high, and it has not increased over the past five years, according to the first findings of the 5th European Working Conditions Survey, out today. The survey also found that for most workers (67%), the pace of work is set by direct demands from people and working at high speeds remains high. The extent to which workers can make their own decisions about how they do their job has not improved, leaving a large number of workers ill-equipped to deal with work’s demands. European workers also remain as exposed to physical hazards, however, as they did 20 years ago. To view Multimedia News Release, go to http://multivu.prnewswire.com/mnr/prne/eurofound/46312/

9000 kilometres across some really rough terrain – that’s the challenge facing the rally drivers taking part in the “Dakar Rally” in January. Two weeks of stress and strain. The head of motor racing in charge of the teams is under enormous pressure too, but in his case it’s not confined to that single fortnight. All year long he has to put together a car drawing on a given budget; a car that will pose a genuine threat to the competition. At the same time he must organise and supervise: the safety of the entire team, the fitness of the drivers and co-drivers, the transportation of the equipment, and so on and so forth. Mhoch4 has accompanied Volkswagen’s head of motor racing Kris Nissen and seen the extent of the demands made on him on the eve of the Dakar Rally.

It’s the summer of 1973, and eight year-old Bobby Burke’s father has been MIA in Vietnam for three years. He’s been keeping his father alive through the magic of his SafeKeeper, a charm bracelet he wears on his wrist, but it seems lately that the SafeKeeper’s power has been fading. The military has given up hope of finding his father alive, and even Bobby’s mom has taken up with a new guy, Nick, who seems determined to become a new father to him. What’s worse, Bobby has to contend with a pair of fearsome Tolltakers who have entered his life: one, a local schoolyard bully who demands money to let Bobby get home from school in one piece; the other a demon who visits Bobby’s dreams to try to snatch the SafeKeeper from his wrist. Bobby fights desperately against these forces that seem intent on keeping his father from him forever, until his final, shattering confrontation with the truth and the understanding of the toll he must pay in order to grow up.
