Today, Zippo celebrated manufacturing excellence with the production of its 500 Millionth windproof pocket lighter. A historic milestone for the renowned Pennsylvania company, the celebration was made even more meaningful as it also fell on the birthday of the company’s late founder, George G. Blaisdell. A sweet celebration, 75 years in the making! Entenmann’s Bakery, the maker of more than 100 sweet baked goods, and The Salvation Army have partnered to celebrate the 75th Annual National Donut Day on June 1st, 2012 with a sweet celebration.
The holiday, held annually on the first Friday of June, was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 in Chicago to honor the “Donut Lassies” who served these treats to soldiers during World War I and to help raise needed funds during the Great Depression. In its 37th year, the National Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest is the ultimate test of just how dirty and stinky sneakers can get when they’re part of an active kid’s life, going where they go, through puddles, mud and all. Sneakers are judged on the conditions of the sole, tongue, heel, toe, laces or velcro, eyelets/grommets, overall condition and most important ODOR, by a panel that includes NASA “Master Sniffer” George Aldrich, Chemical Specialist for NASA space missions, and Rachel Herz, Ph.D., a professor at Brown University and author of The Scent of Desire and That’s Disgusting.

Robert Morris University marked its 90th anniversary Tuesday evening during a celebration at its new School of Business complex, the centerpiece of a $40 million fundraising campaign.
Robert Morris was founded on Sept. 21, 1921, in downtown Pittsburgh as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. The new 18,000-square-foot School of Business complex, which includes The PNC Trading Center, The United States Steel Corporation Video Conferencing and Technology Center, and The ATI Center, gives the university’s business school its first official home at its suburban Pittsburgh campus.
