This year Krakow will host the UNESCO World Heritage Committee session, the European Lotteries Congress and the European Congress of Transplantology Nurses. Adding prestige to Krakow are industry awards, with no other venue receiving the Meetings Star Award two years running. This year’s event schedule will determine the fortunes of Krakow in years to come.
According to a Polish Tourism Organisation study, Krakow is the #1 location in Poland in terms of the number of congresses and conferences. At the heart of the meetings industry is the ICE Kraków Congress Centre, which has just won its second consecutive title of best congress centre of New Europe.

The UNESCO world heritage site that is Skellig Michael is located on the Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland’s west coast and has been wowing audiences since the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where the final scenes of this record-breaking movie were filmed.
This exclusive behind the scenes video gives fans a unique insight into the film makers’ choice of Skellig Michael as a location for Star Wars & how it fit with Abram’s goal of creating a real & authentic backdrop for the movie.
Tommy Harper, the Executive producer recalls the moment they discovered the Skellig islands:
“I got an email from Rick Carter [Production Designer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens]. He sent this link, and it was Skellig Island. J.J. [Director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens] immediately wrote back and said, “I love you! This is the best.””
Since 1977, the renowned movie franchise has travelled through many galaxies, and this time, director J.J. Abrams along with cast and crew jetted into a little village called Portmagee, County Kerry, on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. From here, they travelled eight miles (12 Km) by sea to a dream film location, Skellig Michael, which the crew described as “from another time and place”.

Heute fand im „Maison de la Chimie“ in Paris die Pressekonferenz #ChangeTheNumbers der L’Oréal-Stiftung statt. Dort wurden die Ergebnisse einer exklusiven internationalen Studie vorgestellt, die gemeinsam mit dem Meinungsforschungsinstitut „Opinion Way“ durchgeführt wurde. Ziel der Untersuchung war es, die Gründe für das Ungleichgewicht in der Wissenschaft zwischen Frauen und Männern besser zu verstehen sowie Hindernisse aufzudecken, denen Frauen bei einer Karriere in der Wissenschaft gegenüberstehen.
David Macdonald, Direktor des Förderprogramms For Women in Science von L’Oréal betonte auf der Veranstaltung, dass sich die Öffentlichkeit nicht darüber bewusst sei, wie stark die Vorurteile über Frauen in der Wissenschaft noch immer in den Köpfen der Menschen verankert sind. Heute bewegt sich der Frauenanteil in der Wissenschaft nach wie vor auf geringem Niveau: Nur 30 % aller Forscher sind weiblich.1
Als Ergänzung zu dieser Studie hat die L’Oréal-Stiftung darüber hinaus Erfahrungsberichte von Preisträgerinnen, die im Rahmen des For Women in Science Programmes ausgezeichnet wurden, hinzugezogen. Lundi prochain, la Fondation L’Oréal, avec le soutien de L’Oréal France, la Commission française pour l’UNESCO et l’Académie des Sciences, récompensera 25 jeunes femmes scientifiques doctorantes. Elles ont été sélectionnées par un Jury présidé par Philippe Taquet, Président de l’Académie des sciences et composé de membres émérites de la communauté scientifique. Chacune d’entre elles a été distinguée pour la qualité et le fort potentiel de ses travaux de recherche. A l’occasion de la cérémonie de remise des Bourses L’Oréal France-UNESCO, ces jeunes femmes (26 ans en moyenne) recevront ainsi une bourse de 15 000 euros pour les soutenir dans leurs travaux et leur carrière scientifique, domaine où les femmes sont encore sous-représentées.

Jingdezhen, a medium-sized city in China’s Jiangxi province also known as the Porcelain Capital of China, is well recognized for its efforts in protecting an important piece of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage. A group led by UNESCO consultant Emma Chen Hoefler, simultaneously the vice president of the folk art international organization IVO, the president of IVO China and an expert in the field on the protection of cultural artifacts with intangible value, paid a visit to Jingdezhen between the 8th and the 10th June, 2013, where she conducted field research on the city’s efforts in protecting its heritage.
