Silence speaks volumes. A new survey reveals that young men and women continue to grapple with various forms of dating abuse including emotional, sexual, physical and digital abuse. Seventy three percent reported they are experiencing or have experienced emotional abuse while more than half of all respondents waited six months before seeking help. In partnership with loveisrespect, the 2014 Mary Kay Truth About Abuse Survey aimed to understand how long teens and young adults wait before they reach out for help and gauge what type of abuse is most prevalent among those who seek help.

One in three adolescents has been hit, harassed, emotionally abused or digitally stalked by a romantic partner. Be Smart. Be Well. asked 15 middle school, high school and college students about their experiences with abusive relationships on-camera. The resulting video, Teens Start Talking, now available on BeSmartBeWell.com, is an honest and courageous look at the risks of being young and in love in today’s fast-paced technological world.
Teens Start Talking explores teens’ views of dating abuse and provides tips–straight from teens–for how young people can escape an abusive relationship or help a friend who is in one. Produced in collaboration with LoveisRespect.org, the video is a frank and hopeful discussion of teen abuse from the teen perspective.

As National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, m.powerment by mark. in partnership with the Avon Foundation for Women, announces a total of $1 million in funds raised since its inception in 2008. m.powerment by mark. is dedicated to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence and provides grants to agencies across the country that bring awareness to the cause.
